We have moved. We have sold the house, but we once owned a house in Northern Virginia. To find something we could afford, my lady and I purchased a house far out in the suburbs, where there was plenty of undeveloped land. So it was that we could look out the windows at the back of house and enjoy the woods. Occasionally, we would even hear a gunshot, someone hunting deer we supposed.
Then, about four years after we had purchased our home, developers started furiously building houses all over the county, and that included the land behind our house. Eventually, the once quiet road behind our home became busy and noisy. Change is not always a good thing. When we find something we like, change is usually a bad thing.
Consider what we mean by the word perfect. When something or someone is perfect, there is no reason to change. Any change will make what is perfect imperfect. Unfortunately, we have a problem. As an ancient Greek philosopher once observed:
The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change.

The same philosopher also observed:
No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.

Change is unavoidable. To some extent we can cause the type of change we want, but we have our limits. That is perhaps the reason why that same ancient Greek philosopher said this:
The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you choose, what you think and what you do is who you become.

God is perfect. God does not change. God is the only fixed anchor in this universe. When we focus upon God and cleave to His Word, we acquire a bit of His perfection. We can only hold onto God by loving Him and obeying His commands. That requires each of us to choose each day what we think and do in accordance with His Will.
Change can be tough. Thanks for the insight and encouragement. “God is perfect. God does not change. God is the only fixed anchor in this universe.”
Amen!
Well said, Tom! We are so blessed that God is so consistent. We always know where we stand with Him. He never lies and he won’t ever die. We can count on him for everything, even when we don’t deserve it.
Thanks, and bless you.
