WOULD ANYONE LIKE TO EXPLAIN WHAT IS WRONG WITH GLOBAL WARMING?

Wintry Precipitation and Bitterly Cold Temperatures Continue for Many Parts of the Nation

Dangerously cold wind chills will continue for much of the eastern two-thirds of the country through the holiday weekend. In addition, significant lake effect snow, blizzard conditions, and coastal flooding are expected downwind of the Great Lakes, where several feet of snow may accumulate. For the Pacific Northwest, freezing rain and snow will result in dangerous travel conditions.

I am glad we have global warming. It was cold today in Mount Vernon, Ohio, -6 degrees Fahrenheit (wind chill of -34 degrees). And that was during the daytime! And it is going to stay that cold overnight! Just imagine what it would be like without global warming.

    1. Yep! I live with one of my daughters and her family. At the worst of it two of my grandsons wanted to go outside and play. Instead of arguing with them, she suited them up and set of 5-minute timer. They figured out inside of 5 minutes that it was to cold too be outside.

    Interesting Conundrum

I linked your post today to my post about the evil of Congress to look away on the issue of immigration duty and the plight of over one-half millions of Americans living in cars and tents in freezing temperatures which contained this statement.

“The Irony of the present path is the USA is focusing funding on global warming while at the same time people are also dying from freezing temperatures too.”

    Merry Christmas Eve 2022

    Regards and goodwill blogging.

  2. Merry Christmas, Tom! I am here in the frozen PNW and I assure you this is all totally normal weather for this time of year. Actually we thawed out last night and now the news is all attempting to create drama about potential flooding. Everything must be a crisis, everything must be about creating panic and fear.

Speaking of the PNW, Mt St Helen’s that blew had glaciers on her. These things allegedly take millions of years to form, or are left overs from the ice age, so it was seen as an epic tragedy. Surprisingly the glacier is now back and actually growing bigger than ever. So in just a few short years we have born witness to an entire glacier being built. Rather than 25 million years, it has taken less than 20.

  3. Merry Christmas Tom and thanks for your posts this year. I think Minnesota May become the garden spot of the world if this keeps up.

  4. As a university professor, here is a bit lengthy online conversation I had with students about so called global warming:  James, interesting comments. Note that there has been no global warming within the last 18 years, despite worldwide increases in carbon dioxide emissions.

 Scientists and politicians make poor bedfellows. Science is or should be based on solid incontrovertible fact. Politicians rely on emotion to promote their agenda. Politicians have proposed actions costing trillions of dollars to chase an issue that remains highly controversial. Far more is involved that just additional research and promotion for alternative energy technologies. No one would disagree with the need for more use of alternate energy sources. Our country is already moving rapidly towards bankruptcy for many reasons. With respect to any global warming issues, the controversies must be resolved first, before any massive expenditure of public funds.

 Good question, Sherry. At stated elsewhere in this thread, there are enormous amounts of money related to the alleged global warming issue. Politically, it’s a mammoth worldwide wealth redistribution scheme.

 Good comments, Mthulisi. Some satellite images seemed to indicate that glaciers were becoming smaller, i.e. melting. However, on ground investigations showed that they were not melting. Trees, leaves, rocks, dirt, and debris can obscure images taken from space.

 Good analysis, James. As recently as the 1970s, scientists were predicting a period of global cooling. In the last couple of years, some scientists, particularly in Russia, have begun returning to the global cooling predictions. What do you think?

     James,
 Interesting comments, Megan. However, the IPCC has been discredited for using falsified data. The U.N in general is one of the most corrupt organizations on earth, because they have virtually no accountability to anyone.

 Good comments, Joshua. Sometimes it’s a case of “follow the money.” Beware of apparently scientific books written and sold for popular consumption. The scientist-author typically has an agenda and will tend to slant language toward superlatives to sell more books. Such books also bypass the intensely conservative peer review process. “Conservative” here means very cautious, not to be confused with conservative politics. What do you think?

 Money is at the root of many things. However, behind money is the tendency to make decisions for the benefit of self. Secular philosophers call it egoism; people of faith call it a sin nature. Either way power and money tend to concentrate. The Founders understood the concept well. That’s why they put the federal government in a very tight box called the U.S. Constitution. Sadly, the political leadership of both parties is increasingly ignoring the constitutional anchor that protected this country for hundreds of years.

In 1837, Daniel Webster said, “The hand that destroys the Constitution rends our Union asunder forever.” Several years previously, the great orator asserted, “God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it.” The American public has become anesthetized by an overdose of materialism and continues slumbering while freedom rapidly disappears.

 Good comment, Joshua. There are massive financial interests tied to the global warming controversy. Various elements of the private sector can potentially make huge amounts of money selling the technology to control carbon dioxide emissions.

Also, when politics overtakes science, global warming becomes a vehicle for massive worldwide wealth redistribution programs. One of the main reasons the Kyoto global warming treaty failed ratification was that China and India were specifically exempted, yet those massive countries are the biggest polluters.

 Joshua, good comments. The chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) that apparently caused or contributed to enlarging the hole in the ozone layer were banned in the 1980s. They are no longer manufactured. CFCs were used as a coolant in air conditioning systems and a propellant in aerosol sprays. Substitute substances are used today and have been for nearly 30 years.

 Cory, the whole global warming issue remains highly speculative. The global warming alarmists have had such difficulty attempting to prove their case that they have changed the label “global warming” (directional) to “climate change” (non-directional). The altered terminology allows them to blame virtually any weather anomaly on alleged human activity. Note that the weather refers to short-term conditions and climate refers to long-term patterns. Mixing the two concepts merely creates greater confusion. What do you think?

Note also that another post in this thread explains that none of the mathematical models, which were the basis of the doomsday forecasts have failed to accurately predict anything even though the models have been available for about 35 years. Thus the models have been discredited, strongly suggesting the use of biased assumptions to arrive at extreme predictions.

 Megan, the claim has been made that the temperature of the earth has risen a few tenths of a degree Celsius over the last hundred years or so. Consider the monumental difficulty of deriving that number. How many temperature measurements are required…around the globe…thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions? Must the measurements be taken at sea level, five feet above sea level, a hundred feet above sea level, or on mountain tops. Were the measurements taken 100 years ago as accurate and reliable as today’s measurements? How are representative measurements taken on a regular basis over the vast areas covered by the oceans? Was that done 100 years ago? What about areas politically closed to the outside such as the former Soviet Union and China plus the vast areas in locations such as Afghanistan and Pakistan and throughout the middle east…is there 100 years of scientifically reliable temperature measurements covering a cross-section of all those areas? Suppose, for a moment, that you do have millions, billions, or even trillions of temperature measurements. How do you treat them statistically to ensure that you end up with one global average temperature, much less a 100-year trend that is accurate to a few tenths of a degree. What do you think?

 Interesting comments, Stach, but highly speculative. The claim that “recent years have been some of the warmest on record” is built on data, which has been shown to be faulty of falsified. The global warming controversy contemplates two issues:

1.Is there real documentable global warming? As before, there has been no global warming in the last 18 years.
2.If so, is there a real measurable contribution to global warming from human activity? During the Middle Ages there was a period of global warming so pronounced that there were villages on Greenland. At the time, there was no burning of fossil fuels, so a human contribution was not possible. The global warming was from all natural causes.

Dr. Patrick Moore, Co-Founder of Greenpeace just published, “Why I am a Climate Change Skeptic” at https://wattsupwiththat.com/2018/03/13/a-conversation-with-patrick-moore/ He argues convincingly that there is no scientific proof for the hypothesis that humans are the main cause of climate change and the human interference will trigger catastrophic conditions in the near future. Click on the link and check it out.

Scientists and politicians make poor bedfellows.
Interesting comments, John. The 18 climate models used to support all the dire predictions have been around since the 1980s. The value of a computer model is its ability to predict future conditions based on past patterns and simplifying assumptions. None of the climate models have ever accurately predicted anything, creating widespread skepticism about the models and the credibility of those who created them. What do you think?
 Good comment, Pamula. Greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect have existed as long as the earth has existed. Without the greenhouse effect, there could not be any life on earth. Carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases. But every living animal organism exhales carbon dioxide; every living plant organism inhales carbon dioxide and exhales oxygen. Whether or not the additional increment of carbon dioxide formed by the combustion of fossil fuels significantly affects global temperatures remains uncertain and controversial. As before, there has been no global warming for nearly 20 years, despite a worldwide increase in carbon dioxide emissions.

 Interesting, Andy. Note that the originator can make graphs support widely varying assertions by expanding or collapsing the vertical axis. Consider my other post concerning the monumental difficulty of determining the worldwide average temperature. Such difficulties render in virtually impossible to make claims regarding alleged temperature changes of only a few tenths of a degree Celsius.

Remember that the weather refers to short-term conditions (hours/a few days), e.g. temperature, cloud cover, wind speed/direction, and rainfall. Climate refers to long-term patterns (centuries). Mixing the two concepts merely creates greater confusion. What do you think?
