Where do we keep wild animals? In cages in zoos. Why? Well, if you have ever seen a grizzly out in the wild, that is not difficult to figure out. That four or five hundred pound animal with those big teeth and powerful claws will probably leave you alone, but what will you do if it doesn’t? And when I read Animals and Real Things by insanitybytes22, that is the thought that eventually came to mind. What would I have done if that huge Teddybear had attacked us?
In her post, insanitybytes22 takes issue with excusing bad human behavior because of the Theory of Evolution, using the claim it is all in our genes. Here is a sample.
Calling people “animals” doesn’t insult people, it dishonors animals. Animals behave in a somewhat logical and predictable manner. Ironically the only time you really see them being neurotic and dysfunctional is after too much exposure to humans.
Animals also do not sit around contemplating the nature of their existence, lamenting their place in creation, and wondering what their purpose is. People like to try to pretend we only do that due to our alleged, “higher intelligence.” Apparently our vastly superior wisdom is also responsible for our destructive ways, our perpetual self loathing, and the way we like to constantly teeter ourselves on the edge of extinction?

Think about what insanitybytes22 is saying. When we excuse either our own or someone else’s bad behavior because of genetics, we reduce either ourselves or that other person to an animal. In that case, we may as well preemptively put each other in cages for the same reason we put wild animals in cages. If we don’t expect each other to exercise self-control, then we have no choice except to utilize brutal control over each other.
Those are the sort of thoughts that led to my replies to sklyjd at insanitybytes22‘s post.

Actually, when we don’t approve of insanely stupid behavior and we actively encourage the behavior we want and discourage the behavior we don’t want, we get more of the behavior we want and less of the behavior we don’t want.
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that we are both a product of our environment and a product of our genetic code. When we are taught to discipline ourselves and behave well, we tend to do so.
Do we ever behave perfectly? No, but giving up just because we cannot achieve perfection is a rather silly thing to do, but that is what you have just advocated.

Agreed, the genetic code is not perfect or else we would all be the same perfectness, obviously the evidence of this is the reason we have gamblers, alcoholics, murderers, rapists and paedophiles and it is likely an environmental event became the trigger for the transition for many of these people.

sklyjd, do I think you honestly believe what you say? Yes, but I also think you a thoroughly indoctrinated. Why? Been there. Thought that and done that. Government-run schools were practically invented in America.
Still, with a little effort, we can get pass the indoctrination. We can read primary source documents, histories written by those who lived it. Philosophies written by those who invented and implemented great ideas.
So, if we take the time to understand, we can learn how Socialism works in practice. One of the odd things about various Communist regimes is that during their many and various purges actual crooks and murderers often get better treatment in the gulags than political prisoners.
Disagree with the Communist Party and its rule, and the regime will throw the book at you and enthusiastically torture you. Rob a bank and the regime will just stick you in jail until they figure out whether or not you can be made useful to them. After all, skilled technocrats who are willing to look the other way when Big Brother punishes its political opponents are relatively easy to find, However, every regime led by thugs can always needs more thugs to do its real work, that which it does under the cover of the dark of night.
Here is the point. Should we hate bankrobbers, murderers, homosexuals, liars, drunkards, and all those other sinners? No. We should pity each other. We are all sinners. We all need the grace of God, and we don’t do anyone a favor by pretending that their sins are not sins. Instead of putting ourselves in the position where the only way we can tolerate each other is to put each other in cages (where Socialism eventually leads), we need to help each other to gain as much control as we can over our behavior.
Is it pointless to make laws against bad behavior? It may seem that way.

Liberal Democrats think there is something new about their ideas, about their promotion of diversity. In truth ancient Pagans had very similar beliefs, and we have not been taught how early Christians taught those Pagans something better and gave them hope.

Mother nature seems to have provided animals behaviors to allow animals how to teach their own offspring to emulate their behaviors in order to survive in the wilderness. The animals then grow to maturity, reproduce and then teach their offspring.
What we are witnessing now in our society is trusting government choosing what to teach our children to emulate the behaviors that will not lead to their survival.
In other words, the question posed by insanity bytes of what or why mother nature provided hormones or tirtha leads to humans throwing rotten vegetables at each other.
What we humans should emulate instead about animals is to consider how a mother bear instinct of mother nature, that becomes ferocious when her cubs are approached or threatened by another animal or human.
As for us humans in a Democrat Republic who not to trust. In my opinion, are government legislators who are against school choice or school vouchers in our contemporary times. Legislators who are preventing by use of economic means not to allow parents to teach their children to emulate instead of the rotten vegetables being thrown at them in government run schools.

Can you explain what is good about record crime rates, “sex changes” performed on minors, educating children to judge others according to their outward features instead of their character, not educating children competently in the 3R’s, and wasting trillions of dollars of other people’s money on endless other sordid and hairbrained social programs?

Political speeches are supposedly from people who represent their democratic country, they are supposed to be intelligent with leadership skills and unbiased in regards of the diverse people they represent in their state and country. These non-politically correct politicians who use speech to divide and discriminate are dangerous and should be removed. This is not freedom of speech because this can generate hate for many extremists and that in turn can increase the violent crime rate and we do not want that do we?
I do not claim socialism or any other system is better, however a democratic system for Australia has been proven and quite obviously better than any other system especially if you love your freedoms. I am not responsible for the news in Australia. Instead of politicians, I would rather have parents deciding what their children learn. I am not surprised by the fact I have to defend that position. Just saddened that some people are gullible enough to think politicians will do a better job and that that is enough reason to deprive parents of the right to choose for their children.

In a free country, we have the right to discriminate and make our own choices. Buy a car and you are going to choose one make and model and not choose all the rest. In Australia parents under most governments have been able to have input into the classroom via parent and teachers meetings, parents and myself years ago was invited along to assist in the classroom, nothing goes on in most of our schools without parents being aware of it, don’t you have a similar system in the US? No. I don’t have discrimination confused with harassment and bullying. Harassing and bullying people is illegal. When we choose to harass and bully our neighbors, we infringe upon their rights. That is not the same as making choices about how we want to live our own lives.
Parents in the Classroom
I don’t pretend to know very much about what is going on in Australia. I generally restrict my comments to the USA. However, as a general rule, the person who pays the bill is the one in control.
In the USA, government-run school systems are by definition run by elected officials and their appointees. Because they are well organized and support (finance and provide workers) the candidates they want quite effectively, teachers unions exercise a disproportionate influence upon elected officials. That makes it difficult for parents to exercise the influence that they should have.
Even under ideal circumstances, if the teachers unions were not so powerful, parents would have a difficult time. Too many politicians use the money they spend to further their own interests, not the interests of the students in the classroom.
Choosing a Church
Either you have harassment confused with freedom of speech, or you are just determined to use the government to bully anyone who disagrees with you.
Gun Rights
Overthrowing the government? Read America’s Declaration of Independence and Romans 13:1-7. Overthrowing the government is not a decision to be made lightly.
You feel safe? That is nice. People who talk like you don’t make me feel safe. You don’t understand what government exists to do. Instead of protecting your own rights and the rights of your neighbors, you want government to make “other people” do the right thing. That leads to slavery. Because of people like you, I continue to support gun rights.
Freedom of Speech
With your own words, I can easily show you don’t approve of freedom of speech.
Discrimination is not the bogeyman. It is perfectly okay to have discriminating taste. When we don’t have discriminating taste, we cannot tell the difference between manure and chocolate.
If we are unwilling to tolerate speech with which we disagree, then we have to give our government the power to suppress any speech that our government officials don’t like. When that happens we almost inevitably find ourselves unable to publicly disagree with government officials without being punished.
Consider. I don’t think homosexuals can marry each other. I think the idea preposterous. Undoubtedly, you find that hateful, and they are surely people who want to punish me for saying such things. However, I can more appropriately argue that approving of homosexuality is sinful and that encouraging homosexual relationships is harmful. So, if it is okay for the majority to suppress my free speech, what is wrong with suppressing your free speech. Just think of all the “harmony” that would result if our glorious leaders made us all sing the same tune.
Thank you for your kind mention, Tom. I agree with what you’ve written. The prevailing ides is that if it’s in our DNA, we can’t help it, we are just born that way. Except for gender of course, which is in every single cell and hardwired right into our DNA but for some bizarre reason, that can be totally fluid, easily changed and has nothing to do with our genetics. Or maybe our genetics were damaged due to climate change??
It does appear that the folks who claim to be following the science have an odd way of following the science. I suppose that is what happens when we idolize science. Instead of actually following the science, we insist that the “science” give us the answers we want.
