What is one of the big headaches with the COVID-19 pandemic? Most of the news media is constantly trying to scare us with fear porn. Occasionally, however, we see something increasingly rare, a story in the news media that is actually informative. Here is an excerpt from one such story.
If you want to make sense of the number of COVID hospitalizations at any given time, you need to know how sick each patient actually is. Until now, that’s been almost impossible to suss out. The federal government requires hospitals to report every patient who tests positive for COVID, yet the overall tallies of COVID hospitalizations, made available on various state and federal dashboards and widely reported on by the media…

Does anyone remember how the vaccination Nazis denigrated the COVID-19 vaccinations while President Trump was running for reelection?
Yes. I also remember they claimed he was a liar because there was no way a vaccine could be ready in a few months.
When Trump was president: “I’m never getting that shot!”
When Trump isn’t president: “You should be forced to get that shot! And a booster every couple of months after that!”
The FDA just rejected the booster (for mass consumption, it is authorized for 65 and over, and high risk categories) in a vote of 16 to 2
Two top officials have resigned over it, and they wrote a letter to the Lancet (which was published).
I found a cite with VAERs data. The actual CDC site makes it very difficult to flesh through, so thought I’d share: https://openvaers.com/covid-data
These are reported incidences. Unreported of course do not make the list, but it is the best information we have.
Fear is necessary to villify a population hesitant to get the vaccines (or force them on their family members). The airline industry is already hurting, and the mandates will likely crush it. Of course, United is hoping for a third or fourth bailout so they comply loudly.
Just to add, I take back every bad thing I ever said about the union at SWA.
They and their team of lawyers are the only thing protecting the airline workers from forced jabs right now. I don’t know if they will be successful, but I appreciate their work.
@Liz
Appreciate your comments and that link.
To live our life free and clear we MUST overcome the power of fear. I’ve not taken the shot, nor in spite of possibly losing my VA health care, will I ever.
I hear the rattle, and until I see the snake I am not moving, period . . .
but I COULD DIE! . . . So what? I work out every day and keep my vehicle in good operating condition, but I, the driver of this ancient machine, will not, can not ever die. .
I will say this though: There is something not right about this whole virus thing, REALLY not right.
@pitybull1
We have put people in power over us who are paid by plutocrats and foreign powers. They are not on our side.
that’s why we have the second amendment . . . against enemies both foreign and domestic . .
@pitybull1
It sure does seem like that is what those Americans in the 18th Century had in mind.
Tom,
Today’s Chicago Tribune appears to add weight to your statements about data.
What is troubling is the following statement in the article which I have witnessed to be the truth especially in low-income urban area schools where one parent families or both parents are desperate and must work.
“Educators fear some parents who are unable to find day care or take a day off from work are sending students to school even after they’ve tested positive for the virus, she said.”
Public secular schools do not have the same discipline that both parents and children must abide as do private religious schools, in my opinion.
Hopefully, the Covid strains are not as lethal as most people may believe.

@Scatterwisdom
Viruses tend to get less lethal over time. Killing a host prevents it from spreading the virus. Of course, there are flukes.
Because the Delta Variant is so much more contagious, it is infecting a lot of people in a relatively short time. Hence there are more sick people in a relatively short time. Nevertheless, the percentage of the who get sick or die when they get infect is not much different. Moreover, since so many people have been vaccinated, the hospitalization rates have not been much of an issue.
Tom,
I have no medical training to judge or agree whether a virus over time becomes more or less lethal over time.
However, i know a number of people who contacted the virus and had relatively minor experieouss, Whether it is related to thier younger age vs. the one person who died that I knew who woas in his 70’s .
Which makes me believe Florida’s Bovernor approach was the wisest oolitical approzch which was to focus on the vaccine on the lderly and people with known respirtory or other frailities..

@Scatterwisdom
Don’t apologize for lacking medical training. Because medical training is only one small part of the expertise needed to formulate sound public policy, we err when we allow doctors the sole discretion to setg public policy. COVID-19 provides a good example of this. The way we have handled that virus has interfered mightily with our economy. We have disrespected the rights of our fellow citizens. With respect to the virus, our immigration policy treats the rights of illegal aliens with more respect than it does American citizens. Because of our irrational fears, we have failed to educate children. Because evaluating the risk from the virus requires the skills of a statistician, much the news media has manipulated the statistics to scare people. And so it goes.
The point is that everyone has something worthwhile to offer on this subject, but there has been a concerted effort by those with the power to do so to silence dissent, even from medical experts. Those censors are the ones who should be apologizing, not you.
I too am exhausted by the constant focus on all things Covid. In a sane world we would have recognized along time ago the virus had become endemic and with vaccines available to anyone that wants one, lifted all restrictions and moved on with life.
Unfortunately this doesn’t work for much of the political leadership in this country and celebrity doctors, who favor gaining more and more power and recognition over what’s actually good for the country and thus they lie and overhype just about everything Covid related to keep us in a state of fear and justify their unconstitutional mandates. The King of whoppers himself, Anthony Fauci, just today stated we’ve lost more kids to Covid than. This is a blatant, large, fat lie and he knows this. Yet CNN, MSNBC etc… will run with it over numerous news cycles and the damage gets done.
@Tricia
Well, you know what they say about how fast a lie travels.
To some extent the speed at which a lie travels works against liars. Once people begin to figure out that a liar is lying, the people can pile up the lies quite quickly.
This is the whole point. It was your choice. I’m frankly so tired of the daily reports of COVID 19 numbers. It seems to be the to story of every nightly newscast. Talk about trying to instill fear into our minds. Until our government can regain our trust, we’re in for along haul.
@atimetoshare.me
After what Biden did in Afghanistan, I am amazed he is still in office. Democrats have lost their minds.
I don’t know what is going to happen. Ultimately, because God is in charge, it will be good, but in the near term I expect we will be miserable.
But even in those miserable times He brings us peace with His promise of eternity.
