We feel awful. We see our hearts filling with shame and regret. Something warm and stinky has found its way into the whirling blades of fan, one that hangs above our heads. How did this happen? How could we have been so foolish?
Why is the USA going off the tracks, cartwheeling to disaster, falling flat on its face, going broke, shooting itself in the foot, …..? Consider what it means to make the state — our government — our idol, to worship our grand and glorious leaders instead of God. God is the Creator. Compared to God, what are Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, or Nancy Pelosi? God can answer our prayers, but Biden, Harris, Schumer and Pelosi do not even know our names; they cannot hear our prayers. They only seem powerful.
- They can tax us.
- They can spend our money until it becomes worthless.
- They can send our soldiers to war.
- They can bring our soldiers home from war.
- They can send us to jail.
- They can let us out of jail.
- They can run our schools.
- They can ruin our schools.
- They can order the construction of roads, bridges, mass transit systems, space ships, and so forth.
- They can allow our infrastructure to decay from lack of maintenance.
- They can rule with benign neglect, focusing just upon those things they need to do.
- They can ruin everything they touch.
- They can demand our worship.
- They can modestly decline our worship.
They can do so many things, but they cannot be God. We can only pretend that they are gods.
Our great and glorious leaders are not especially wise. They do not know how to make us perfect. Like ourselves, they are only small creatures. They can make grandiose promises, and we can invest our dreams in their empty promises, but they are only human beings. Because all they can do is order us about, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, or Nancy Pelosi cannot do for us anything for us that we cannot do for ourselves. Have they ever given us anything we did not first give them?
Only God can hear and answer our prayers. Only God can make us perfect. Only God can do all things. Only God is worthy of our worship, and we are so unworthy. We can only give back to God that which He first gave us.
So, why do we believe politicians when they make promises that they can never keep? We are insane.
Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results
https://quoteinvestigator.com/2017/03/23/same/
What drives us to behave insanely? Fear!
Imagine! Remember one of the scariest movie scenes.
The heroine has grabbed onto a log. More and more rapidly she floats towards the precipice of a large waterfall.
CRISIS!
In a mere moment it will be too late. Our heroine and her log will careen into the abyss. That will be our heroine’s end, but, suddenly, the hero reaches out, and he pulls her out of the water. The music changes, we are relieved. Our heroine is safe.
Is the hero a god? No. The hero has only delayed the inevitable. Some day our heroine will die, but don’t we idolize movie stars?
Are Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, or Nancy Pelosi gods? Should we call them heroes? Is there any truth in their promises? Will giving them all the power they crave save us from even a momentary disaster? Can Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, or Nancy Pelosi keep us forever from death? Should we trust politicians who promise to end cancer, poverty, fix the weather, eradicate a flu-like disease (COVID-19), bring world peace, make the “rich” pay for everything, and so forth? Should we trust politicians who promise to give us “rights” to food, clothing, shelter, a free education, healthcare, a good job, vacations, retirement, and so forth?
Have such politicians ever delivered on their endless promises?
What is the alternative?
Proverbs 3:5-7 New American Standard Bible
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
Do you want to end the insanity? Instead of deifying mere men and women, trust in the Lord. Instead of fearing man, fear the Lord.
Matthew 10:26-31 New American Standard Bible
“So do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the darkness, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are two sparrows not sold for an assarion? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not fear; you are more valuable than a great number of sparrows.
I agree with the article. I’d also say that people flock to leaders out of fear of themselves. . . . What would happen if the idiots in Washington went all the way Marxist and burned and outlawed the written word? How many would flounder without something to read? How long before the unknown God is replaced by the anti-god?
It seems to me that God is as differently discerned as there are people discerning. . . and in our ‘gimmie something for nothing’ country God is about to become similar to N. Korea’s ‘the great leader.’
When I want to pray to the unknowable God I shut up, find a quiet place to sit, and just listen. The key is to shut up and quit begging, . . . I am rarely if ever, left floundering and I’m not even a religious person. . . . Washington is only as strong and influential as I allow them to be . . .. I am only as strong and influential as I allow myself to be.
“Washington is only as strong and influential as I allow them to be . . .. I am only as strong and influential as I allow myself to be”
Words of great wisdom.
@pitybull1
Agreed! I just put it differently.
Because God is infinite, and we are each finite and unique, looking from our own point of view, we each perceive God differently.
Still, I think the Apostle Paul says something that applies to all of us. He said he was strong only when he was weak.
When we put our faith in our Lord, surrender to His Will, and struggle to obey Him, it is then that we allow ourselves to be strong.
Tom,

Thank you!
Well said, Tom. Many have long given over their security to the state out of fear. They want the State to take care of them. They’ve thrown off God for their new god, the State. They’ve chosen quite foolishly. Israel did pretty much the same thing in Samuel…
11 He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. …. 16 Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. (1 Sam.8:11, 16, 17 NIV)
20 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.” (1 Sam.19:20 NIV)
Today’s religion is Socialism, which was the plan all along:
“Socialism is precisely the religion that must overwhelm Christianity. …In the new order, Socialism will triumph by first capturing the culture via infiltration of schools, universities, churches and the media by transforming the consciousness of society.” (‘Audacia e Fide’ in Avanti!; reprinted in Sotto la Mole, 1916-1920, p. 148)
@Mel Wild
Thanks for the compliment. You have written some excellent posts on this subject. So, it feels good.
1 Samuel 8 is definitely shows God’s disdain for tyranny. Even Thomas Paine, who would latter become well known as a Deist could not resist quoting it.
You may find this interesting.

I’ll check it out.
Thank you for this positive message, Tom. We need to hear more of this sort of thing. We can’t fail as long as we allow God to do what He does best. His will is always for our good.
