I would like to think of myself as cool and calm. Fortunately, I don’t like lying to myself. Therefore, I do not believe I am cool and calm. I just try to focus on getting the stuff that needs to be done done, but sometimes I wonder. What the heck should I be doing?
Consider the situation in California and how Everett Piper has reacted.
“Caitlyn” (aka Bruce) Jenner has announced his candidacy for governor of California. The question is should conservatives support him? After all, Jenner stands for lower taxes, common-sense border security, and less government intrusion in our daily lives. Surely this would be better than the tyrannical rule of Gavin Newsom, wouldn’t it?
The answer, in a word, is no, and the simple reason is, likewise, one word — priorities.
In “God in the Dock,” C.S. Lewis referred to first things and second things. He wrote, “You can’t get second things by putting them first.
You get second things only by putting first things first.”
In talking about these first and second things, Lewis was borrowing from Jesus. Saint Matthew quotes Christ this way: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” As is almost always the case, Jesus’ message is simple, concise, and clear. If we make His way, His truth, and His life our top priority — our first thing—then the rest of life, the second things, will fall in place and “be given to us as well.”
Why conservatives should not support ‘Caitlyn’ (aka Bruce) Jenner for governor of California – Washington Times
Good thoughts? Well, sort of. Piper is one of my favorite columnists, but I think Piper has overlooked a couple of things.
- Gavin Newsom and “Caitlyn” (aka Bruce) Jenner won’t be the only people on the ballot.
- Being a Christian is not about standing against other people. Being a Christian is about standing for Jesus, loving and obeying Him. That is largely what seeking His kingdom and His righteous means. We don’t run around proclaiming the badness of others. We focus upon doing the right thing.
Is what Bruce Jenner has done to himself awful? Yes, but so is what Gavin Newsom has done to his state. As governor Jenner would set a terrible example. We don’t want to hold up trannies as role models, but is Newsom setting a better example? I have no idea, but there are good reasons this guy is likely to lose that recall election. Fortunately, the choice is not simply between Jenner and Newsom. Jenner may be shameless and unrepentant about his so-called “sex change,” but there are other candidates who have set better examples.
You live in California? Then don’t hyperventilate and make yourself dizzy with anxiety. Read about the other candidates. Visit their websites. Figure out which candidate appears to have the best interests of your family, friends and neighbors at the forefront of his campaign. Figure out which candidate has the best record (not the perfect record) of public service. Then actively support that candidate. Don’t wait for others. Lead the way.
Stop worrying about the false choices presented by your fellow hysterical human beings, and get to work. None of us is perfect. Every single human being who runs for public office is in some way flawed. If churches are filled with sinners, why would we expect our government to be any different?
You got a few dollars? You got a little time? Then do what you can and pray God multiplies what little you can do.
Matthew 15:32-38 New American Standard Bible
32 Now Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “I feel compassion for the people, because they have remained with Me now for three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way.” 33 The disciples *said to Him, “Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd?” 34 And Jesus *said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” 35 And He directed the people to sit down on the ground; 36 and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and after giving thanks, He broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 37 And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, seven large baskets full. 38 And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.
We cannot solve problems that are so much bigger than us, but we can donate what we have to the cause of good government. This is one way we can show our love to our family, friends and neighbors, and that is one of the things Christ has commanded us to do, love our neighbor. And the only way to love our neighbors is to get use to loving sinners and pray that God will help us to save each other from Hell.
We are even suppose to love Gavin Newsom and “Caitlyn” (aka Bruce) Jenner. Vote for either of them? No.
Keep this in mind. You want a serious Republican to win? The news media will not help. Because the news media would dearly love seeing Jenner become the Republican contender, they will give Jenner all the free media that they can. So, it is up to the people of California to ignore the news media, do what they can, and pray for God’s mercy and help.

I need to move out of CA
As a Californian who cannot wait to see Newsom dragged kicking and screaming from office, I personally wouldn’t have that big a problem with Jenner taking his place. You see if you live in California as a conservative you have to get comfortable with the crazy or you will go crazy ourself. Jut stock up on the popcorn.
I agree though there are better choices to rally around and we should do our homework. But removing Newsom doesn’t rely on any candidate getting a majority. It’s if more people answer yes than no to the first of the only two questions that will be on the ballot:
Do you think Governor Newsom should be recalled?
If yes, by who?
Pray for California y’all and that the citizens do the right thing.
@Tricia
Praying. Feel free to return the favor. We have an election this year. Would be great to replace the trio of scoundrels who have served as our governor, lt governor, and AG.
Praying in return Tom. If we could get your trio out along with Newsom and Cuomo….I can barely imagine!
LOL! I have to laugh Tom, the issues going on in our world right now are like, ”would your rather freeze to death or burn to death” and we are supposed to just calmly chose as if this is freedom! Fortunately we are currently being terrorized by our own states set of tyrants and I’m not allowed to vote in California anyway, so it’s kind of a non issue. I do however, have a few choice words for the Natl Republican party over all, for all the RINOs, Trump impeachers , and Jenner supporters.
@insanitybytes22
I too can’t vote in California, but I can give free advice. It seems that lots of people do that. I just hope my free advice has a little bit of value. In other words, I hope it is worth a little bit more than what anyone paid for it.
Non issue? I suspect you know that’s an overstatement. We are a federation. So, what happens in California does matter to every other state. Even some other countries.
His name is Bruce. #SayHisName
