WHEN TOLERANCE BECOMES HYPOCRISY

Just for fun I did a little Internet search. Given their comments, I thought some of our Liberal Democrat friends would “enjoy” the results. Like too many Liberal Democrats, these commenters are determined to blame President Donald Trump for the violence at the Capitol.

Are some of the quotes out of context? Would not be surprised. It is unfortunate, but it is risky to trust the news media, no matter what its bias might be. Always has been. Still, it is downright crazy to trust any politician any more than we must. Like it or not, government is a necessary evil and not a solution for problems like our lack of personal charity, but Liberal Democrats disagree.

Why doesn’t everyone think like me? Ain’t I always right?

Do Liberal Democrats promote violence? When I was growing up, I thought Democrats a bit nuts and idealistic, but they did defend the First Amendment, and they made some effort to promote nonviolence. Now? Now all too many do is get mad and call you names if you don’t agree with them. These are not the same Democrats I grew up with.

The way Liberal Democrats and the so-called mainstream news media have demonized Trump and his supporters has promoted violence. They use race and identity politics divide us. They allowed rioting in our nations cities using racism as excuse to do nothing to stop the violence. The fact Liberal Democrats are blaming Trump for any violence, much less what happened at the Capitol Building, is just dumb and hypocritical.

Think about word “tolerance”. Conventional wisdom requires us be tolerant of others. Well, that word, “tolerant”, does not describe what is required. We are supposed to forbear with those with whom we have disagreements (see Dismount your donkey at the summit – Citizen Tom). If we are totally unwilling to seek compromise with someone who disagrees with us about politics, to laud our tolerance of different races, sexes, and creeds can easily become just plain hypocrisy.

The Apostle Paul stated it this way.

Because our racial differences are too small to matter, tolerating someone because their skin has a different hue than our own is easy. Putting up with the opposite sex can actually be quite pleasant. As long as they are willing to let us practice our own religious beliefs in peace, forbearing with the religious beliefs of others is a no-brainer. Forbearing with someone who disagrees with us about politics, however, is far more difficult. These are beliefs that cause us to pay taxes and live in accordance with sometimes onerous laws. Nevertheless, as far as it depends on us, we must strive to be at peace with all people. If we can accept the fact that all of us do not have to believe the same things, even Liberal Democrats and Conservative Republicans can get along.

Problems arise if we insist upon making each other believe the same things and behaving the same way. Then we will destroy each other, or another country, seeing opportunity in our divisions, will put us out of our misery.
