Our public school system effectively gives teachers unions monopoly control of the education of our children. That’s why even when the schools are closed those teachers still get paid. Government owned and operated schools don’t have any competitors. Moreover, some unscrupulous politicians even make it easy for public employee unions to finance political campaigns. Therefore, few politicians want to antagonize government employee unions.
Thus, we have these stories.
- Virginia’s largest school district reverses on reopening to in-person classes (thehill.com)
- Fairfax County Schools superintendent recommends 100% online learning for all students (wjla.com)
- 100% virtual learning recommended to start 2020-2021 school year, Fairfax Co. superintendent says (wusa9.com)
The members of the teachers union in Fairfax County had to fight a little bit to get their way. They had to demonstrate, and I must admit I thought the demonstration clever. The wjla.com article provides a video (see the second video in the article…

Loudoun County now too. Being an ex-pat from California, I’m telling you that VA is turning into Cali. Everything California does, VA follows right in step. It’s like they’re using the same playbook. I can’t begin to tell you how frustrated it is to watch. I watched elections be called in California before people finished voting. I watched the school systems go to crap. We moved here to give our kids a better chance at a good education. So much for that! I still have one kid left to get through high school. I’ve never been one to home school, but I am seriously considering it. You watch. Taxes will go up. The cost of gas will go up. So will utilities with no real explanation. Such a tragedy. And so corrupt.
The explanation won’t come from our elected leaders. Those we elect tell us what we want to hear, and most of us don’t want to hear the truth these days. Itchy ears.
I expect you already know the explanation. The problem is moral. When we elect people who are willing to bribe us with “other people’s money”, we elect people who are willing to sell us to the highest bidder.
Why has China, for example, grown at America’s and even the world’s expense? China corrupt leaders have practiced the art of bribery and theft, and our leaders have accepted their bribes.
Until sufficient numbers of us repent and confess our sins to our Lord, America will continued to decline. That’s why so many of us pray for a revival. We see in our nation’s decline indisputable evidence of the rot in the souls of a great many Americans.
Tom,
Even China closed their schools. What is interesting is the per capita rates of infections by country in my opinion.
If you consider the populations of countries in the link below to the number of cases reported, the USA is listed as number one in the world with infections.
Trump stated the reason is because the USA does the most testing in the world which is interesting.
My point is if China decided to close their schools, either their reporting is not accurate and since they seem to be capable to continually outsmart us in trade matters, maybe it is best to just do the same as they do.
Or perhaps because their economy expanded over 3 percent because they are supping 90 percent of the worlds supplies of PPE equipment, whereas the world economies in total have are shrinking instead of expanding.
Like I stated, China has outsmarted us in trade and rebuilt their country infatuation more than the USA. Perhaps we need to emulate them, both close our schools like they are doing, and manufacture more goods in the USA as I have been moaning about for the last 20 years.

@Scatterwisdom
That article was limited in scope to Hong Kong. Not sure what they call international schools, but Chinese Communists are running Hong Kong now. I expect the Communist want the people of Hong Kong fearful.
Here are a couple of articles on the subject.

Do we want to copy China? I don’t think that you said that the way you intended. Go back to your normal mode. Is the Chinese leadership wise? Only in the ways of the world. So, we need to be wary of the Chinese leadership, a bunch of Communists (Matthew 10:16). If we start obeying God, we will do just fine. Otherwise,….
Tom,
I do not believe China has accurately reported their virus statistics.
I agree that if the USA emulates the methods of the countries in your source links, that thee risks would be reduced.
Sadly, the USA schools in my opinion will not enforce the same methods in USA public schools.
The teachers in many schools do not want to encounter children in the same manner as a policeman, who frankly have to now call a lawyer before they encounter anyone, moreso a child..
Private schools will isolate a child and then call up a parent to pick their child up if they don’t follow rules, not so in public schools.
