Supposedly, there are moderate Democrats. Which of these is a moderate?

Do any of the so-called moderates have any chance of being elected? No? Then what happened to the Democratic Party, the party founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison?
Each generation has a responsibility to bring up the next in sound moral values.
Proverbs 22:6 New King James Version (NKJV)
6 Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6 is probably the most well known verse in the Bible that calls upon us to properly instruct our children, but there many such verses and passages in the Bible. Unfortunately, generations of Americans have ignored their duty. They have given their responsibility to train up their children to politicians, people almost nobody trusts. Even our leaders have told us not to trust our leaders.
Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. Do not be too severe upon their errors, but reclaim them by enlightening them. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, Judges, and Governors, shall all become wolves. — Thomas Jefferson, letter to Edward Carrington, January 16, 1787 (from here)
When we are arrogantly tempted to call our fellow citizens the “unwashed masses”, we need to consider Jefferson’s wisdom. Who else is there with the power to hold our leaders accountable? Instead, we the people need to work together to seek a solution.
What is wrong with our education system?
- Politicians have the wrong incentives. Politicians are influence peddlers. When we put them in charge of our schools — our children — politicians sell access to our children. Instead of protecting our children, politicians reward those who help them. They reward teacher’s unions and activist groups (environmentalists, abortion rights advocates, LGBTQ rights advocates, socialists, and so forth).
- When trying to instruct children in wisdom and civics, politician-run schools encounter First Amendment issues. Why? What we call wise depends upon our religious beliefs, and what we call a good civics education is determined by our political ideology. Therefore, even if politicians had the capacity to do a good job of instructing children in wisdom and civics, the courts would not let them do it.
- To do their job, instructing their children in wisdom and civics, parents need to be able to choose the school they want their children to attend, but government-run schools are monopolistic. Government-run monopolies have very little incentive to be responsive to the needs of their customers.
So what is the solution? We need to get back to our nation’s founding values, the Biblical beliefs of the people who colonized this country. When Everett Piper responded to a comment by Pete Buttigieg in Mayor Pete’s Bible study ignores sexual immorality: True Christians must support the Republican Party (washingtontimes.com), he provided us an example of how this is done.
What did Buttigieg say?
During recent CNN town hall meetings, Mr. Buttigieg said the following: “If you belong to a faith tradition that tells you that so much depends on how we make ourselves useful to those who are marginalized … I can’t imagine that requires you to be anywhere near this president or what the Republican Party has become … I’m not going to tell other Christians how to be Christian, but I will say [that] I cannot find any compatibility between the way this president conducts himself and anything that I find in Scripture.” (from here (washingtontimes.com))
Piper put on the whole armor of God. He responded by quoting scripture. Why is that necessary? Read about The Temptation of Jesus by Satan (Matthew 4:1-11). When Satan misquoted scripture, Jesus corrected him. Jesus did what Adam and Eve failed to do when Satan twisted the Word of God in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3).
In Boy Scouts of America’s bankrupt moral standards embrace leftist ideals: Leaders’ decisions doom the once influential organization (washingtontimes.com), Robert Knight illustrates the problem of abandoning Biblical values.
It didn’t matter that the Scouts won all their court battles, including at the U.S. Supreme Court, to maintain their moral standards. The saboteurs were intent on ending the Scouts’ common-sense, existentially necessary exclusion of boys who sexually desire males. And that was only the beginning.
Two years later, they opened their ranks in 2015 to homosexual leaders during a time when they faced hundreds of sex-abuse lawsuits. Somehow, it didn’t seem to matter that virtually 100 percent of the abuse cases involved homosexual molestation. I mean, it was only 100 percent or so, so why worry?
We’re told over and over that it has nothing to do with, you know, and that “most” gays don’t molest children. Sure, but if this scandal involves only “pedophilia,” why are so many of the victims young men, not children? It’s the same with the Catholic Church’s abuse scandal. You don’t see nuns molesting boys and young men, or turning seminaries into “pink palaces.”
In January 2017, the Scouts added transgenders and finally, dispensing altogether with the original boys-to-men reason for the Scouts, they let in girls 10 months later. The Girl Scouts are understandably irked.
As of February 2019, the official name became Scouts BSA, as if getting rid of “Boy” in the title would cover this mess. Now, unsurprisingly, with declining enrollment and steep legal bills, the Boy Scouts of America have declared bankruptcy. (from here (washingtontimes.com))
Because he has read the Bible and knows what it says, Piper can correct Buttigieg. Do our children have that capacity? No. Most of our children only know what other people, like Liberal Democrat news reporters, have said about the Bible. Few have actually read the Bible, much less studied it carefully. Instead making our children read and study the Bible, we have allowed politicians to instruct our children in the glories of godless Socialism in socialist institutions. Instead of teaching our children that God is love, we have let politicians teach our children that Christianity starts wars.
Consider the danger.
Proverbs 3:5-8 New King James Version (NKJV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall [a]direct your paths.7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
8 It will be health to your [b]flesh,
And strength[c] to your bones.
As parents we have the opportunity to give our children a great gift. If nothing else, the Bible represents thousands of years of accumulated wisdom. To those who believe, the Bible is the Word of God. Without this wisdom, we leave our children little choice. Instead of learning from the past, we doom them to repeat the mistakes of the past. We doom them to suffer foolishly by learning the hard way, by trial and error. We take the risk they will be enslaved by the desires of their flesh and never learn how to love our Creator.
If one lives in a hot desert or near the frozen poles, then 72F seems pretty extreme to that person. The question is extreme as compared to what?
1. Public schools have been around for more that a century and have a great deal of public support.
2. Most persons in the country support gay rights.
3. Most people want their church to be religious and their government to be moral, but, as the 1st Amendment requires, religiously neutral. This goes back to the founding. We have never had a federal theocracy.
“We’re told over and over that it has nothing to do with, you know, and that “most” gays don’t molest children. Sure, but if this scandal involves only “pedophillia” why are so many of the victims young men, not children? It’s the same with the Catholic Church’s abuse scandal.”
Most of the “pedophilia”in the country, if not the whole world, is committed by sick men against young girls. Does it surprise anyone that the Boy Scouts (throughout its long history of covering up) would peculiarly attract male predators leaders who preyed on young men?
The reasons for pedophilia in the experience of the Catholic Church is psychologically complex, but there also were female victims. However, the argument that this scandal, which goes back generations, could be attributable to very recent liberalization of human sexual rights is just plain asinine. If anything my church’s intransigence on this has served to create more priest predators, further psychologically damage the victims and cover up the problem.
Instead of taking out of context the defensive spirit of putting on the “armor of God”, how about just using the brains God gave us for a change.

I used the term “moderate” because Democrats like to call themselves moderates. Frankly, I don’t care if someone is a moderate. Was Jesus a moderate? No. He was the Truth.
Consider your three points. We have a republic, not a pure democracy. Why? The reason is that the Founders knew that we cannot trust the majority to discern right from wrong. Yet here you are trying to justify the public school system and same-sex marriage based upon a moment of time when you perceive the majority supports your position. Right or wrong? Does that matter to you?
Did I advocate a theocracy? No. That is what you are demanding, the right to use the government to impose your beliefs. School choice does not set up theocracy. It does the opposite.
Because men molest girls, it is okay for men to molest boys? Weird argument you are making.
Brains? Use them? To determine that sex does not matter? That is using one’s brain?
@tsalmon
Fired off my last comment prematurely. Cell phones….. 🙄 Get impatient or I would not use mine that way, I suppose.
What did I want to add? Think about that word, truth. Is marriage between a mature man and a mature woman — can only a mature man and mature woman marry, or is marriage just some kind of sexual relationship? Is the truth just a fad? Is truth just our ability to sell a belief. Is truth just about the “right” words at the “right” time?
Go back in time. Pedophilia was once accepted. Polygamy was the norm. Right or wrong, it took a war to end slavery in the United States.
Yet man’s “truth” changes. Utah is trying to legalize polygamy. The same arguments you have made support the legalization of polygamy and pedophilia. Bestiality would not be far behind.
The most divisive issue? When does a baby become a human being? Or is a newborn just a “fetus” that has been given birth?
Consider the weasel words used to oppose the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
The fetus killers won this round. => https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/born-alive-abortion-survivors-protection-act-fails-in-the-senate/
I used the term ‘moderate’ because Democrats like to call themselves moderates. Frankly, I don’t care if someone is a moderate.”
Well, you brought up the word. Personally, I think that preserving and improving a more than a century old working institution like our tradition of public school systems (like the ones we both were privileged to graduate from) is a pretty “conservative” idea.
“Yet man’s ‘truth’ changes. Utah is trying to legalize polygamy. The same arguments you have made support the legalization of polygamy and pedophilia. Bestiality would not be far behind.”
If you can’t differentiate between the choices that consenting adult persons should be allowed to make and the horror of pedophilia or beastiality, then I don’t think you are really much concerned with “truth”. You are concerned with using absurd slippery slope demagoguery to control others.
You used to be a scientist Tom. In science, in scripture and in life, truth is often about the ability to recognize multiple variables, to weigh competing vectors of interest, to be humble about ambiguity and to make very fine discernments.
@tsalmon
Yep! With respect to the Democratic Party’s Presidential Primary, I am the first political commentator in the country to bring up the word “moderate”.
The public school systems is not anything like the schools children attended in the 1830’s. Then they were run by local communities, and the special interests were not corrupting them. Check out =>https://citizentom.com/2020/02/24/protect-your-children/.
The Democratic Party is on a slippery slope of its own making. The Democratic Party is already pushing aside parental rights in favor of child rights so that they can promote abortion rights. If they are okay with same-sex marriage and polygamy, pedophilia and bestiality is not go to bother them. They will just claim to be unbiased and tolerant.
When the AIDS epidemic was raging, the gay rights advocates took offense whenever anyone pointed out the association with AIDS and homosexuals. Meanwhile, the same self-deluded people sewed a gigantic quilt in honor of all the dead homosexuals. So much for science.
This debate does not have much to do with science. It is about what we believe about God. How do we determine the difference between good and evil. Christians use the Bible for such wisdom.
Reblogged this on Rudy u Martinka and commented:
Three thousand years ago, King Solomon wrote a proverb to explain this answer.
Do you like honey? Don’t eat too much, or it will make you sick! (Proverb 25:16)
I recommend you read the post and comments and then discern if the Democrats proposals imply there is a lot of honey left in our Republic that currently is 22 TRILLON IN DEBT and in my opinion on steep moral decline which began when government took control of what this post explain why.
Recommend you read and discern how much more honey you will vomit after you choose who you want to represent you in the 2020 election.

They call themselves moderate but are most certainly not.
@Tricia
When it is all about “me”, then everything is relative to “me”. Hence, an extremist is someone who has significant disagreement with “me”. The fact that “me”‘s position represents huge departure from the historical norm does not matter, at least not to “me”.
Tom,
Love your post message. In my opinion, there seems to be a sad steep downward slope that has occurred on our Republic”s journey.
What caused the downturn from our original Puritan moral values to reverse from our founding fathers dreams to begin the much steeper decline began when government took control of education instead of parents to impede for the majority to financially be able to to pass on their religious beliefs.
We now are on a even quicker journey to repeat the same paths of folly that occurred in the past.
I was amazed the other day when I read the “NEXT” return to folly being touted by a liberal columnist, legalizing polygamy.
If interested, read my post and comments. I am beginning to believe bwcarey cdomment ““our environments are crashing.”
This election just might turn out to be he final phase in the turning point to speed up the “crash,”: not only morally, but financially.
And it is going to get ugly when when the “Next” “crash” occurs, same as KIng Solomon proverbial wisdom observed would happen 3000 years ago, in my opinion. .

I don’t want “moderate” democrats or moderates of any kind. The mess we are in, which you have summarized so eloquently, is the result of the Lord’s people trying to be moderate, i.e. lukewarm. Had we been red hot for God’s word, we might still have our George Washingtons, James Madisons, our Thomas Jeffersons, instead of those pathetic pseudo leaders. We have achieved the government that we deserve.
@iamcurmudeon
Laodicea Revelation 3 is a good comparison.
