On Sunday evening I spent several hours working at the Prince William County Republican Committee’s booth in the Commercial Building at the Prince William County Fair. The picture below shows the Republican Committee’s booth.
So what is this post about? Look at the pictures below. For obvious reasons fair management tries to keep opposition political interests as far apart as possible. So the Democratic Committee’s and Republican Committee’s booths were at opposite corners of the building. Even two candidates for sheriff were on opposite sides of the building. Nevertheless, the Democratic Committee’s booth was right next to a guy selling Trump merchandise for 2020? What happened?
What happened? This is 2019. Who would expect a vendor to be selling campaign paraphernalia for a 2020 election? This is over a year in advance. Yet that is what that vendor was doing, and he was making sales.
Of course, there were unhappy Democrats too. The vendor said one “lady” had hysterically cussed him out. Democrats make it tough to be a Republican, but some of us have to behave sanely. 😉
Anyway, I had a good time. People were pleasant and a fair number were interested in the November 2019 elections. We will have plenty (too much) on the ballot: the General Assembly (both the Senate and the House), all of the Board of County Supervisors, all of the School Board, the Sheriff, the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and all of the environmental board. We will also have a bond referendum. So I hope the candidates will talk about local issues and not pick fights by calling each other names.
