I am curious what folks think of this column, The Democrats have an Israel problem — and it’s not Ilhan Omar by Jackson Diehl.
The Democratic Party has problems with Israel. But Reps. Ilhan Omar (Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), the new members of Congress who have attracted attention with toxic tweets and support for boycott, are not the main protagonists. They represent a minority of Americans and are isolated in the Democratic caucus.
The bigger trouble for Democrats is embodied in the man who has dominated Israeli politics for the past decade — and who is favored in upcoming national elections. Benjamin Netanyahu has doggedly and successfully worked to thwart the goal pursued by Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and still embraced by most Democrats: a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He relentlessly campaigned against Obama’s nuclear deal with the Iranian regime, an initiative most Democrats still support. (continued here)
Frankly, I think Democrats are becoming more and more bigoted against Israel, and I am a bit puzzled by this. I understand Democrats claim to want peace in the Middle East, but blaming Benjamin Netanyahu for the problem doesn’t make sense. How are the people of Israel suppose to compromise with people who seek their destruction and refuse to settle for anything else?
What puzzles me most of all: Jews vote for Democrats in overwhelming numbers.
Never understood it.
I found this 2013 article interesting:

That was an interesting article, marmoewp.
Thanks for the link.

Interesting, but I see a lot of stereotyping in it. Consider this excerpt.
Party affiliations are to a large extent driven by what people believe and shared economic interests. The notion that Jews sympathize with the less fortunate and with minorities any more than Conservative Christians comes from people believing their own propaganda. Attitudes towards homosexuality, on the other hand just signifies the fact that there are a lot of Liberal Jews who don’t take the Old Testament and commomsense seriously.
There are a great many subcultures in the USA. Each party appeals to some groups more than others. Since the Democratic Party is so into identity politics and hearing dog whistles (Only a dog can hear one of those whistles.), I feel sorry for the people taken in by it.
@Liz
Blacks do the same. I think the problem resides in the public education system. Instead of being taught the importance of glorifying our Lord by serving others, we are being taught the glories of me. When me doesn’t get everything me wants, we become victims, and Liberal Democrats step up to offer their services. Then they point to privileged white men and say those guys are the victimizers.
It’s the abortion argument over and over again. It’s either the mother or nothing. The baby is never given a chance. Plain and simple vanity and greed. That is why they are so motivated by Israel’s demise.
@bottomlesscoffee007
Not quite sure how you think Israel fits into the abortion issue. You think Democrats are just too selfish to support Israel? That selfishness also drives the abortion issue? I agree with that.
The vast majority of our sins are driven by pride. When we put ourselves before God and refuse to obey Him, we refuse to do what is right.
Exactly my point @Citizen Tom. All of these issues and problems arise from the simple issue of always blaming someone else.
The amount of individuals are smaller and smaller. It’s all about groups and identity anymore.
Benjamin Netanyahu is not the problem. The Islamists who want to annihilate Israel completely are. We must stand with Israel. I am so very glad President Trump does. It is the right thing to do.
Agreed!
Tom,
The best way to solve this problem is to send tsalmon to Gaza to explain to the Palestinians “it’s the world as it is.”
I would love to be there to see their reaction.
Regards and good will blogging.
