In addition to the midterm congressional elections, we will be electing the Chairman, Prince William County School Board, At Large. Since we have tens of thousands of students attending our public schools in Prince William County, we all have a stake in how well our schools serve those students. Our taxes help to pay for those schools, and we encounter the children who attend those schools every day. If those children learn good things, including how to behave well, our tax dollars at least go to a worthwhile cause. If they don’t, we make these children a burden and mess with their lives.
So where can we find information on the candidates? Check out WHY THOSE QUESTIONS ON THE PWMFA VOTER GUIDE? — PART 9. In particular, make certain you read WHY THOSE QUESTIONS ON THE PWMFA VOTER GUIDE? — PART 7. The The Prince William-Manassas Family Alliance website has information on all the items you will see on our ballot, but few sites have comprehensive information on the race to decide who will chair the Prince William County School Board.
Note that Ryan Sawyers, the man who was the Chairman, Prince William County School Board, At Large, resigned. That is why we are having an out of cycle election to replace him.
Why did Sawyers resign? Instead of just making sure the children were learning what they need to learn in school, Sawyers created a ruckus. Here are some related news articles.

Instead of debating how best to educate the county’s children, Sawyers had the board arguing over whether boys pretending to be girls should be allowed into the girl’s restrooms and locker rooms. See ANOTHER BUSYBODY PROBLEM IN PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY.
After Sawyers resigned, the Democrat majority School Board appointed a temporary replacement, Babur B. Lateef, M.D., Interim Chairman. The election on November 6th will allow voters to choose the person they want. We have three choices.
- Babur Lateef
- Alyson Satterwhite
- Stanley Bender
Lateef and Satterwhite are serious candidates. Both have campaigned vigorously for your vote. Of the two, I recommend voting for Satterwhite. She has the experience. She has served for an extended period as Gainesville District’s School Board member, and she has focused on educating the children in our county for their sakes, not trying to use the schools to serve a personal agenda.
Babur Lateef, on the other hand, is a very smart man, but with respect to the problems the School Board must overcome he has limited expertise or experience. In addition, he donated money to Ryan Sawyers’ campaign fund (see here). Lateef’s public statements also indicate that he sympathized with Sawyers’ agenda and still does.
To operate successfully, our public schools must discriminate carefully between topics that appropriately belong in the schools, and those that do not. Even with respect to topics that do belong in the schools, educators must often adopt a neutral stance. Unfortunately, few Democrats know how to walk that narrow line anymore. That disqualifies Lateef.
Alyson Satterwhite has shown she knows how to get the children in the county educated without outrageously offending the opinions of half the county’s parents. That is why the Prince William County Republican Committee endorsed her candidacy (see the sample ballot). Please vote and give Satterwhite your support.
Thank you.
