Did you know there are primary elections on June 12, 2018 in Virginia? Have you gone to the Virginia Department of Elections to find out what will be on your ballot? Don’t you think it is about time you did?
Are you aware we live in a constitutional republic? Our government is designed primarily to protect our rights from busybodies.
- Some of our neighbors will take what the want from others, killing them just to get what they want. They will even bully the weak into slavery.
- People in other nations sometimes don’t even see the humanity in foreigners. Even genocide is not too evil and vile for some.
- Because we can all be tempted, we have imposed checks and balances upon the people we elect. Hence, our government is designed to protect us even from those we elect to rule us.
What is the first and most important check we place upon those who rule us? To rule us, our rulers must get our votes. When sit out an election, we don’t exercise that check upon our rulers. Instead, we acquiesce to the decision of others. If you have the competence to vote well — if you have family, friends, and countrymen you care about — why would you do that?
On June 12th, there will be Democratic and Republican primary elections all across Virginia. The winners will be on the ballot in November in the General Election. If you want a say in who will be November, you must vote on June 12th.
What is the key to responsible voting? Go to the candidate’s websites. Check what the candidates stand for and what they say they have done. Then see what they have to say about each other. Finally, check multiple news sources across the media spectrum.
Like it or not, we hide the truth from each other. Because we all have our biases, we all emphasize that aspect of the truth we want others to believe. Some of us will even lie. Otherwise, God would not need to prohibit bearing falsehoods. Therefore, when we try to do the right thing the right way we also need to pray.
