We have to stop burying ourselves in debt. President Donald Trump, please veto that bill.
President Trump sparked fears of an impending government shutdown Friday by threatening to veto a $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress, citing the lack of a deal that would include protection for illegal immigrants brought to the country as children in return for funding for a wall. (continued here)
Consider what Democrat Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer had to say about that bill.
This spending agreement brings the era of austerity to an unceremonious end and represents one of the most significant investments in the middle class in recent history,” the New York Democrat told reporters. “It’s really a turning around. (from here)
This is insufferable foolishness. Austerity? Where was that man during the Obama presidency when the national debt exploded? And now, with REPUBLICANS IN CHARGE, this spending agreement brings the era of austerity unceremonious end? Is he serious?
Remember what one-time Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said about that Obamacare bill.
But we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy. (from here)
Do we really want to find out what is in the bill AFTER the bill is passed? Is that how you buy a used car? If so, have I got a deal for you?
Look around the world. We are in competition with other nations. Some of the leaders of these nations have virtually enslaved their people and would happily enslave us. Trump has entered arms and trade negotiations with these nations. When we borrow money from nations like China, we seriously weaken our negotiating position, and we do so needlessly.
Leaders like Senator Schumer don’t have a clue. They cannot tell the difference between needs and wants. Their ethics stink. Let’s pray Trump does the right thing and vetoes that bill.
Listen to the news carefully. There are lots of things in that bill that bill that some people want, but none of us need. Is there money for Planned Parenthood? Public broadcasting? The Department of Education? Wouldn’t that be redundant when state and local governments already have that job?
Read up on the bill. Why was there a rush job? Why the high pressure sale? Are we the People benefiting or just greedy elites?

Does the news media actually know what is in the bill? When did they get time to read it?
The GOP has shown that they’ve been nothing but hypocrites for the last 10 years. Doing everything they complained about Obama doing…
@August Jensen
The real blame belongs with the electorate. We voted for these people, both the Democrats and the Republicans.
We are trying to make our government work without ever trying to figure out how it is supposed to work. In fact, because we let politicians run our schools, we are being taught things that are profoundly untrue.
You want to understand how the Constitution was supposed to work? Read the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers. Those are the debates that occurred when the Constitution was being ratified.
Because we have so much government involvement in our education system, there are even lawyers who have never read Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers. That’s inexcusable. Every high school senior should have read them before they are allowed to graduate.
If we want to understand history, then we each need to do our best to read the most relevant literature of different times. Common Sense, The Crisis Papers, and Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers are most assuredly relevant to the American Revolution and the formation of the USA.
I agree, I actually just got into this issue with a Facebook friend of mine. The issue isn’t Democratic or Republican in its entirety. You have to be willing to look at the records of each politician. The republic was always intended to work with a well educated populace. As the populace becomes less and less educated (especially in US Government and History) the more screwed up the system becomes.
With that being said it is frustrating that the GOP has been campaigning as the fiscally conservative party, and then does not act that way when they get control. In a functioning democracy with well educated voters those individuals would not be reelected.
If wonder why everyone loves their own congressman and senators, but hates Congress? The system is set up so that politicians can lie to get elected. Then when they start to vote for the benefits of the special interests, they uses lots of money to propagandize the public so they can maintain the pretense.
If we were better educated, we would not fall for such nonsense so easily, but it is what it is.
Most people think that because of the public school system that people today are better educated than they were in 1776. Maybe, but with respect to civics where is the evidence of that?
So how do we fix it? The first step is to educate ourselves. We need to know how our government is supposed to work. While we are doing that, we need to join our local Republican and Democratic Party. That is where many of the candidates running for Congress ten years from now will be nominated for state and local offices in the near term. We the People need get to know those people now and start promoting the best of them. To some extent, we all need to be political activists. We have to stop leaving the job to somebody else. Note that the people who work at the local party level are always happy to share what they know about the nomination process. You just need to talk to more than one person to make sure whoever you talk to knows whereof they speak.
too late I fear, I think he signed…
Looks like it funds Planned Parenthood, no surprise…
Amen! He should veto it. He should also care about our debt. I am concerned he isn’t. If he wanted to cripple China, he would do something to stop borrowing so much money from them. Just sayin! 🙂
And then he signs it. Yikes!
