What Is An Economic Abortion?
Why this post? We just had a “bipartisan agreement” on the budget and a shakeup in the stock market. Are the two related? To some extent. Since this is not an investment advice blog, I won’t elaborate. Instead, I will just observe that we all know borrowing lots of money can be a very bad idea.
Who is at fault for all the borrowing our government does? All of us. Why? Let’s consider the matter. Let’s begin by defining the seriousness of the problem.
What does the term “abortion” mean?
1 : the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus: such asa : spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first 12 weeks of gestation — compare miscarriageb : induced expulsion of a human fetusc : expulsion of a fetus by a domestic animal often due to infection at any time before completion of pregnancy
The definition of “abortion” sounds technical. The term “death” is included, but it is only the death of an embroyo or fetus by “termination”. Nonetheless, most of us experience a bit of horror and discomfort, at least a twinge of conscience, because we know abortion ends the life of a child. What that child might have been ceases to be, and that happens a million times every year in this country.
What we may not stop to consider is that there are other ways to abort what might have been. Instead of ending a life, we can condemn that life to enslavement. The tool the slaver often uses for that purpose is debt servitude which an economic abortion.
In BLESSINGS FOR OBEDIENCE, a post I wrote some time back, we considered the blessings Israel received for obeying our Lord’s commands. What happened Israel became disobedient? What happened when our Lord withdrew His blessings. Well, this is one of the things that happened.
Deuteronomy 28:43-44 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
43 The alien who is among you shall rise above you higher and higher, but you will go down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you will not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you will be the tail.
What does that passage mean when it says: “He shall be the head, and you will be the tail“?
Proverbs 22:7 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
7 The rich rules over the poor,
And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.
When society permits it (sometimes just because the wealthy want it so), debt bondage (state.gov) can be a powerful tool for enslavement. Often those in authority have even required those who cannot pay their debts to compensate their lenders with forced labor, enslavement. We can, after all, convince ourselves that this is the right thing to do, and people have.
Slavery is an old institution. For the most part, those enslaved ancestors are long forgotten now, but all of us have forebears who were some sort who were slaves. Many no doubt became slaves because of warfare, but it is far easier for the wealthy to enslave the poor with debt than it is to conquer anyone with arms.
What are the expressions we use to describe this sort of slavery?
- Debt slavery (britannica.com)
- Debt bondage (en.wikipedia.org)
- Human trafficking (dhs.gov)
All these terms mean essentially the same thing. Instead of debt, the expression “human trafficking” just emphasizes the fact that when human beings become slaves they can be bought and sold. Sometimes we cannot avoid debt. However, when we become careless of the future and think only of the here and now, we can abort our children’s future. We can leave them enslaved to our debts.

Great post and topic to explore Tom.
Notice how your explanation of the word about, contains all kinds of words to evade the truth of the missing definition of the verb and noun definition or the word kill.
verb
1.
cause the death of (a person, animal, or other living thing).
“her father was killed in a car crash”
synonyms: murder, take/end the life of, assassinate, eliminate, terminate, dispatch, finish off, put to death, execute; More
2.
put an end to or cause the failure or defeat of (something).
“the committee voted to kill the project”
synonyms: destroy, put an end to, end, extinguish, dash, quash, ruin, wreck, shatter, smash, crush, scotch, thwart; More
noun
1.
an act of killing, especially of one animal by another.
“a lion has made a kill”
synonyms: death blow, killing, dispatch, finish, end, coup de grâce
“the wolf was moving in for the kill”
Then compare to this ancient command
Thou shalt not kill.
So what is the truthful meaning of either animal or human abortion?
As for Proverb Proverbs 22:7 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
The rich rules over the poor. And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.
Compare the proverb to the History of the present state of the American Indians in the USA who sold Manhattan Island for Wampum.(US Dollars)
All the dollars and interest on loans being accumulated as a by our “friendly” foreign country trade partners in the form of trade imbalances. The result of our inept USA trade agreements, is the accumulated dollars are being used to buy up USA farmland, businesses, real assets. In other words our debt will in time .make Americans subject once again to result in Americans working for foreign powers.
Kinda reminds me of the sane situation that resulted in the Boston Tea Party..
