Got this from my congressman, Rob Wittman, this morning.

Have you checked your paycheck for this month?

Ninety percent of Americans will see more money in their pockets thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Ensuring that this tax reform bill helped the average, working-class family in Virginia’s First District was a top priority of mine. While we’ve already seen millions of Americans benefit from special tax reform bonuses, this month millions more will see their pay checks grow simply because of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

It’s not just individuals seeing savings from tax reform. This legislation has given our small business the break they need to invest in their business, hire more workers, and contribute to our growing economy. Take it from a business right here in VA-01:

Last week, I visited Cornerstone Moving and Storage in Fredericksburg to hear how tax reform has enabled them to better serve their customers, put more trucks on the road, and expand their business. Click here to hear their story.

How has tax reform benefited you? If you have a story to share, let me know!

It’s an honor to serve you and Virginia’s First District in the People’s House.

Democrats, amazingly enough, just lied about the effect of the tax cuts. Hopefully, people remember that in November, when they go to the polls to vote.

  1. Definitely seeing an improvement in the economy here! Thanks for this, Tom! 🙂 God bless you greatly! Sorry a bit late here. Haven’t been home for a few days. Playing catch-up with my favorite blogs this evening! 🙂

  2. There was a little extra on my check but my Christian convictions are not for sale. The God of the Bible is one of love, grace, mercy, and compassion who also taught us that out of the heart the mouth speaks. I am praying that God will raise a person to lead this country that is neither Republican or Democrat but rather a man after His own heart in every regard. Blessings today!

    1. I appreciate the sentiments, but the last man of that sort was George Washington. Washington did not need the support of a political party. His prestige was that extraordinary. Such men are rare.

What political parties exist to do is nominate and promote candidates for political office. Political parties exist because they provide a way for ordinary citizens to organize and affect the political process.

What is a political party? It is a bunch of people with similar ideas about why government exists and what it should do.

Why is there strife between political parties? James 4:1-6 describes the cause. Because of prideful desires, some people misuse the power of government to get what they want.

Consider that government exists to force people to do things they may not want to do. When some people become convinced that government is abusing its power to apply force, those people can get angry and decide they need to “fix things”. At the same time, the people who want the government to use its powers to further their interests are just as likely to get angry when other people organize to resist their aims.

Therefore, the problem does not reside in political parties. The problem resides in the human heart.

  3. I’m still concerned what such a huge tax cut will affect the National Debt.

Too steep for me to figure out on my own. Guess we will know in time if the tax cut will turn out to be a positive or a negative.

I read the USA assets are valued at 90 trillion, minus 20 trillion in National Debt. Only 70 trillion left in real value, I guess.

Lots of this stuff is guesswork, but people have certain things they have to do like eat and put a roof over their heads. So that adds a certain predictability to economic forecasts.

The problem with a tax cut is that we use fiat money. What is the value of fiat money? We use it to pay taxes. So when we reduce taxes, we make our fiat money less valuable. I think that is why the Constitution gives Congress the power to coin money, versus printing it.

That said, Republicans had to reduce taxes. The high corporate income tax was making the USA noncompetitive. If the Republicans can keep their courage and react calmly, the stock market will stabilize. 665 points sounds like a lot, but it is only 2.54 percent, and the market has risen much more than that in the past year.

      1. Frankly, the economics has become too steep for me to understand anymore. At this point, all we can do, us average guys, is hope and pray for the best. In worse case, the USA still has enough capacity to feed ourselves.

        1. Economics can get complicated. Since I had some business course years ago, and I have read a few books I suppose I understand economics a little better than some.

I think the crucial thing to understand is the law of supply and demand. Money, just like anything else, is subject to this law. Even when a business has a monopoly, the law of supply and demand still operates.

What makes economics complicated. When we look at the entire economy, we have to model a highly complicated system. Each part of that system involves labor, services, products where the supply and demand for that labor, those services, and those products affects other parts of the economy. The interactions are numerous and very difficult to predict.

          1. I keep thinking that the USA can never compete with overseas laborers who are paid $200 a month vs a US laborer who has to pay $800 a month in rent alone.

For example, the Corporations are not lowering their product prices, they are giving bonuses to employees and dividends to stockholders.

I believe Trump is basically trying to get overseas Corporations to build factories here instead of tariffs. Actually, that is what China did except instead of inviting Corporations, they tell them in order to sell their products in the USA, they must build plants in China and employee Chinese labor.

Like I said, it is become to steep for me. My simple mind is pay off debts so you don’t have to pay interests which over time means you have more money to spend and invest.

As for trade, I still think Congress should have taken Warren Buffet’s advice in 2003 to control trade deficits.

            Regards and goodwill blogging.

          2. When Buffett starts talking about Import Certificates (ICs), I just stop reading. It is too gimmicky.

If we don’t want foreigners buying up everything, we need to cut spending. Ideally, we also need to put our currency back on the gold standard or some such thing.

Foreign competition is not killing this country. Buffett’s Squanderville and Thriftville does not describe our problem. Our people work, but our government spends and spends and spends. It is our government that is borrowing and borrowing and borrowing, and we are not getting anything out of it. That borrowing just gives our politicians more money to spend to buy votes and influence.

Why do people make more money in the USA. Relative to the rest of the world we still have a large amount of money invested in productive capital. What is productive capital? It is machinery, communications and transportation infrastructure, electrical and water utilities, and so forth. It is a bunch of things that make it possible for human beings to produce more in products and services in less time.

To use such productive capital effectively requires an educated work force. The USA still has that too, and we still have a halfway decent education system. Therefore, we can still command good salaries, but we need to get government taxation and spending under control. As the Democrats have well demonstrated, power mad politicians will kill the golden goose to gain power.

          3. I agree with you on his certificate idea. I also agree with his explanation. Because that is what happened to the USA if you check into how many foreign owned Corporations now own USA assets.
I also believe Trump wants more foreign Corps making products in USA because the USA needs the USA dollars for investment in USA and that is his only option since 9 trillion USA dollars were invested since 2003 in foreign countries rather than the USA.
The only other outcome is hyperinflation if Trump starts printing more dollars as what Obama did.

            Regards and goodwill blogging.

  4. As a consultant, I don’t get one in the normal sense of things but if I did I am sure I would appreciate being able to keep more of my income. Nancy Pelosi is the Republicans best campaign asset. Crumbs! Ha Ha.
