This is an oldie, but a goodie. Since Thanksgiving Day is a government sponsored day of thanks, it is also sort of appropriate for Thanksgiving Day.
As the author of the post, altruistico (=> https://altruistico.wordpress.com/2017/11/22/opening-prayer-at-kansas-senate/#comment-9702), Minister Joe Wright actually gave the prayer in the Kansas House in 1996.
Here are some links to some of those urban legend investigators.

=> https://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/prayernation.aspWhen you are setting at the table at Thanksgiving Day, consider this prayer. In addition to thanking God for what He has given us, let us also beg for His help in becoming His obedient servants.
This interesting prayer was given in Kansas, USA, at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:
“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says: “Woe to those who call evil good”, but that is exactly what we have done. *
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. *
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism. *
We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism. *
We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle. *

Be blessed on this wonderful day of Thanks-living. God is with you.
Thank you very much, and the same to you and yours.
I have no idea why, but your comment went into the spam bucket. My apologies.
@CT
I like what Scatter W said above. As true as it is, and needful as it is, I can see how some could take this as a lecture. Reading this, and being so much in agreement, I would still like to ‘hear’ the words in gauging the moment.
That said, it was not the content so much that was offensive to the hearers, but probably ‘praying’ itself with reference to the exclusiveness of ONE God.
At the end of the day though, still took courage to say what he did, and was to be commended. I appreciate boldness wherever it is found. (loved that equilibrium thought)
and may as well offer you a 2nd Thanksgiving well wish!
Happy Thanksgiving Tom
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours as well!
in my opinion, the prayer is not a Thanksgiving Day Prayer, it is a Good Friday Day Prayer.
Regards and goodwill blogging.
Can’t say you are incorrect. Still, I think we give thanks better after we stop to think of how much we have to repent. Then we are better able to be thankful for our Lord’s mercy and grace. After what would Good Friday be without Easter?
The “repent” word brings to mind the meaning of another old saying I often think about.
“Love is never having to say you are sorry.”
With all the madness and folly going on in our world every day, we need to find time every day to be thankful and cheerful to God for allowing ourselves, friends and family, just to be alive and together, in my opinion.
Check out my post today if interested.
