Here is a great post!
There is an “old saying” in the computer age. Garbage in, garbage out!
If we do not make a conscious effort to survey the news from various sources, we don’t have a complete picture of what is going on. We only see the world as we want to see it. That is biased data and garbage.
Much of what we know of the world depends upon our perception of people. If we don’t watch/read some of the news the “loyal opposition” is seeing, we cannot understand why the “loyal opposition” is so opposed to us. Then they become the enemy.
In a free society, we can brainwash ourselves. We can choose to avoid unpleasant content that denies our world view, or we can try to see things from multiple point-of-views. Digesting the news from multiple viewpoints makes it easier to put ourselves in other people’s shoes. It gives us a better understanding the people and the problems we confront. Then we can propose and defend better solutions. Then we are prepared to convert the “enemy” into the loyal opposition.

I jest. This particular kind of plagiarism is actually the highest form of flattery. The plagiarism of ideas, as in yes, somebody else actually gets it! I really appreciated the above article which begins, “…you might have felt like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole.” You don’t say?? Imagine that! Am I not the Girl in the Blue Dress? I have no less than 45 posts tagged “Alice in Wonderland Logic.”
Indoctrination. Brainwashing. Perception is not reality. Algorithms, ideology, cultians, and facebook, oh my. People are actually being brainwashed on the internet, our behavior and perceptions of the world, manipulated. Fake news, biased news, confirmation bias, the molding of public opinion and we are the lab rats.
You can’t really protect yourself simply by avoiding facebook or turning off the news, although those are good ideas. But you sure can protect yourself…
