you just might get what you want

This post has some good words to say about a difficult topic, and it points to Pastor Robertson’s post. May I suggest you take the time listen to the pastor’s sermon? When so many have fallen away — when so many neglect the study of their Bibles — those of us who still revere the Word of God need to prepare. We must be able to explain why we believe a passage of scripture that has become highly controversial.

“The lost enjoy forever the horrible freedom they have demanded
and are therefore self-enslaved.”

C.S. Lewis The Problem of Pain

(pretty little dahlia, not mine however—Julie Cook / 2017)

There it is again…
another quote from C.S. Lewis, each from the same book I referenced the other day—
Two random quotes that just so happened my way…???
Each from the same source???!!!…
I should think not….

So yes, I’ve ordered the book.

This morning I actually did something I would not have normally done.
I carved out time to sit and listen…
For you see I am a hit the ground running sort of individual—
a morning person who does her best work, thinking, cleaning, sorting, writing…
in the morning….
So for me to stop, sit and listen is a pretty big deal…
this as I often equate my sitting with wasting time…
as in I need to be…

  1. Thanks for your comment on my Islam post. I was trying to reply, but your comment disappeared.. Must have hit wrong link. I plan to explain why in post three.

    Regards and goodwill blogging.

        1. Well, since you have already read it, I guess it restoring my comment is not a big deal. Nevertheless, here is how I get to the Trash bin. Guess it will work for you too.

Click on the following menu options in the sequence shown: My Sites (at the upper-left corner) => WP Admin => Comments (shows all comments)

Once you get to the point where you are displaying the Comments, be careful. Do not click on the Empty Trash button, at least not until after you have restored my comment. Click on the Trash (link at the top).

Once you have a display of what is in the trash bin, you should be able to restore a specific comment.

  2. first thank you Tom for sharing —
I certainly see it as God the Father dealing with the rebellious teen who thinks he knows it all and has this harebrained idea that the all knowing Father knows is not good and not going to work, but He lets the kid do it anyway–as in, okay mr smarty pants, you think you’re so smart, ok, go for it….”
and then we see it has devastating effect—
but hopefully like the prodigal son, we get our act together before it’s totally too late

        1. Just to add, that’s why stuff like this happens:

The JAGs go through the paperwork and try to rescind bonuses they offered, money the government promised in exchange for service. This has happened to thousands and it is causing big retention issues. Kind of a violation of trust when you sign a document with the government and they ex post facto rescind it and want their money back years later.

  3. I don’t think of the topic this way.

I think of it like Abraham trying to talk God out of destroying Sodom.

“What if ten (innocent citizens) are found there?”

In fact, since God is righteous, he will rise up to save his people.

  4. I really liked this post,Tom. It reminded me of Aslan’s quote from Narnia, “all get want want, they don’t always like it.” The truth of that saying has really stuck with me and often led me to question, are you sure that’s what you really want? Are you going to like it?

God is good and He knows what’s best for us,therefore we should really question ourselves when we start to imagine we want something else. The odds are pretty good we’re not thinking that one through.

    1. What is for us the most reliable measure of God’s Word. Well, I suppose there are better ways to regard it, but I know that when I ignore His Word I get into all kinds of trouble.
