WHAT IS ON MY BALLOT? VIRGINIA PRIMARY ELECTION ON JUNE 13TH, 2017

The news media is not much good at keeping us informed, and we are not much good at paying attention. So most people don’t vote in Primary Elections, and many then have the nerve to complain about the selection of candidates in the General Election. Then, instead of learning their lesson, they don’t show up again.

🙄

Well, this post is for those folks who just need a little reminder to show up. So what is on the ballot where I live in Virginia? The Prince William County Office of Elections has the information. If you want to register, vote early, or vote absentee, please visit  Prince William County Office of Elections.

On June 13, 2017, we will be having both Democratic Party and Republican Party Primary Elections (see below).  When we get to our voting precinct, we can ask for either a Democratic Party or a Republican Party ballot. Since I live in the 13th House of Delegates District, Democratic Party ballot includes the Democratic Primary Election in that race. If you live elsewhere, see What’s on my ballot.

Democratic Party Primary Ballot

Governor State of Virginia

Lieutenant Governor State of Virginia

Member, House of Delegates 13th District

Republican Party Primary Ballot

Governor State of Virginia

Lieutenant Governor State of Virginia

Why are we not having primaries for the Democratic and the Republican candidates for the Attorney General and the Republican candidate for Member, House of Delegates 13th District?

The Virginia Public Access Project (vpap.org) keeps information on who is funding the candidates. Naturally, they keep a list of who is running too.

  • Candidates for Attorney General: The candidates include Mark Herring (the Democrat incumbent) and John Adams (Republican).
  • Candidates for Member, House of Delegates 13th District: vpap.org confirms Delegate Bob Marshall (the Republican incumbent) will be running again. Because he is scrupulous about not selling his office, he never raises much money, but always manages to win by a respectable margin.

Good effort to kick people into voting.
But here’s an observation… more a question to ask yourselves as you go into this primary…
how secure is your vote from being hacked?
Ok.. common sense (as we currently assume it to be) might shrug that question off as a bit of nonsense, thinking why would Putin want to dabble with a Virginia primary anyway.

    1. I work at the polls as an Election Officer. From what I have seen, Putin would find it difficult to hack a Virginia election. The county I am in records the vote on paper. So we can do a recount. At the voting precincts, the computers are not online. There is a laptop that is used to report the results. Not certain how secure that is, but there would be a very small window of opportunity, and it is only used to get the initial count.

    2. BTW. What the Russians supposedly hacked was not the election. The hack was into the Democratic Party and H. Clinton’s campaign. Democrat Liberals have a security problem both with respect to their policy positions and with respect to the way they use computers.

The fact H. Clinton authorized keeping classified emails on personal email server should have resulted in jail time. That one promise I wish Trump had tried to keep.
