Here is a post that complements my last post.

The wings of time

God cannot be charged with negligence as some would care to imagine.

It is a thousand times easier to believe God created all that is; yea rather it is infinitely more logical to believe God holds all things together by His very word; than it is for a man (or woman) to believe he will live to see tomorrow.

God’s word is THAT reliable, verifiable, and truthful, whereas tomorrow is but a crapshoot.

(continued here)

We have a preoccupation with time. Our ancestors deified Chronos and Saturn, and we personify the passage of each year in the person of Father Time. Nevertheless, only God knows the future.

James 4:13-17 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.15 Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” 16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. 17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

    1. Indeed. Last year there was one bad day, and I went from being a very happily married vigorously healthy man planning a future together to a bent, crippled, wheelchair-bound widower wondering what the point was to continuing. (This was all the result of dinner at a nice restaurant.)

I recently “celebrated” that anniversary, but I have often said to people in the year since to treasure their loved ones and their health, as you cannot know what tomorrow will bring.

      1. Thanks for this candor Keith. You said a lot in a few words.

One could very easily become bitter, but in spite of all we do not know nor understand, God is ultimately worthy of our trust.

Easy for me to say huh…………actually, it’s not. May your memories sustain you, and fresh ones give you hope.

      2. From time to time I see examples or see people dealing with severe losses, but thus far life has been kind to me, more so than I deserve. Given what that day brought you, I can only hope I could maintain my composure as well as you have.

Thank you for setting such a good example.

  1. i agree with Colorstorm… i appreciate your references to Chronos, Saturn and Father Time…. it is just as you say…. in actuality, Jehovah is the only One with all our events past, present and future in His hands. May we all learn to trust Him with our future as we think on James 4;13-17 passage. Lord bless. Have a blessed Memorial Day Holiday.
