The dance of atheism

Atheism is easy enough to define.

noun
1. the doctrine or belief that there is no God.
2. disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.

Nevertheless, all atheists are not the same.

Psalm 14:1 New King James Version (NKJV)

The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.

The Bible says that a man who says there is no God is a fool, but all fools are not equally foolish. And we are all sheep, and sheep are foolish.

A word is easily defined; a man is not. Even the Atheist we cannot judge.

Nevertheless we can dance.

Psalm 150 English Standard Version (ESV)

Let Everything Praise the Lord
150 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens!
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

“In a universe of blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won’t find any rhyme or reason in it, or any justice.

The universe that we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference… DNA neither knows nor cares.

DNA just is.

And we dance to its music.”

Richard Dawkins, River Out of Eden: A Darwinian View of Life (1995)

If we have an impoverished worldview

That fails to embrace all of reality’s nuances

It means that

In the end

All we can do is

Dance

So we dance

To the music of pitiless indifference

Into endless darkness

Into oblivion

To the drumbeat of horrid doubt

We dance

We don’t get hurt

We don’t get lucky

  1. I have read your About page, your three parts of WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE IN GOD? and this post above. When I first started blogging a few months ago at the leading of the Holy Spirit, I prayed and asked that if He was truly wanting me to do this then He would lead me to the sites that would encourage, inspire and continue to teach. It is no accident you came to my site for even though the reader gives suggestions and the search tags give direction, time for reading and time for writing were at a premium. I do have some health issues, not life threatening but do requiring some changes from time to time.
    The Lord led me to your site. I have been teaching and “trying” to serve the Lord for over 40 plus years and I avoided politics except for my voting responsibility and studying the issues. But seeing the way this country is going and the gradual slip into liberal extremism, starting with the abandoning of the very Christian principles this Country was founded on has stirred my heart even more than I could have imagined! I believe firmly that you CAN “teach an old dog new tricks!”
    So I am glad I found your site for it is a great balance of Conservative theology AND politics.
    I have several relatives who are very concerned about the liberal media and extremists trying to cram down a false history into the minds of the American public.
    Anyway, thanks for coming by. I’m going to put your site on my links page, but even more I have some family who would love a site like yours. We need all the voices we can get who will expose the lies of the liberal media and leftist extremes. God bless you richly as you continue to serve (minister) to others AND to the Lord!!

    1. Thank you for visiting and for your kind words.

      Mine is only a small, imperfect voice. That’s not modesty. That is simply true. I follow Jesus because He is God, and I am not.

      When immigrants first came to our country, many came looking for a place they could practice their faith and raise their children to love Jesus. In the years since, succeeding generations have fallen further and further away from the simple ambition of those earlier arrivals.

      Successful reformation begins with a question: “why?” The Protestant Reformation began when technology made it possible to print the Bible. Then people began reading, and they asked: “why?” If the Bible says this, then why do we believe and do something different? The leaders of the Roman Catholic Church did not have a good answer. So that great church divided, but Christians — even Catholics — reunited around the Bible.

      Similarly, to successfully reform our nation, we must begin with a question: “why?” When our founding documents — when the words of our nation’s founders — point us to God and God-given rights, why would we believe and do something different? Have we created something new and improved? When we have not studied and have not taken the time to understand what the founders did, how could we? When we do not know how what the founders created is supposed to work, how could we know what might be better?

      Have we have allowed ourselves to be misled? Have we have elected men and women, too much like ourselves, ambitious for power? Have we not given them that power? Are they not abusing that power?

      Was what happened truly unexpected when we, our parents, and their parents put ambitious men and women in charge of our schools? Should we have been surprised when schools run by politicians taught generation after generation increasingly greater falsehoods? Is it merely an accident that even now our leaders are using these lies to rip us apart and trash what it took generations to build?

      To reform, to bring back a simple idea, a place where we can practice our faith and raise our children to love Jesus, we must begin by studying the Bible. Then we must study our nation’s founding documents and try to understand the system of government founders created.

      With God’s help, we can return government to its place, a fallible institution we use to resolve our disputes, protect each others rights, and provide for national defense. But first we must repent and turn in love to our Creator. We must strive to obey His commands. We must stop worshiping men and believing absurd promises made by men.
