Just Watch Oprah’s Reaction After Actress Rejects Labels and Declares Herself Not ‘African-American’

H/T http://godgutsandoldglory.wordpress.com/.

I have no idea who Raven-Symone is. I just know that while she is mixed up about marriage she does understand that hyphenating our national identity divide us. So I congratulate her on that bit of wisdom and the emphasis she placed upon it.

The real treasure in this post, however is another video. Check out The Hyphen – By John Wayne.

Give Me Liberty

This is from The Blaze.

I applaud Raven’s stand on being a hyphenated American we are Americans first and foremost.

Be proud of your heritage, but first and foremost, you are an American..

Here is John Waynes take on hyphenated Americans.

Actress and singer Raven-Symone left Oprah Winfrey visibly surprised during an interview when she explained that she’s “tired of being labeled” and considers herself “American,” not “African-American.”

Raven, who is best known for her roles on “The Cosby Show” and “That’s So Raven,” said she doesn’t want to be labeled as “gay” either, because she is just a “human who loves humans.”

“I’m tired of being labeled. I’m an American. I’m not an African-American; I’m an American,” she said.

“Oh, girl, don’t set up Twitter on fire,” Winfrey responded. “Oh, my lord. What did you just say?”

Raven continued: “I mean, I don’t know where my roots go to. I don’t know how far back…

  1. Oprah is your typical neo-dividist (I’m coining that right here, right now). She wants to come across like she’s breaking down barriers, but in reality, what she is actually doing is pushing for credit to a race, not the person or the deed. Who cares if someone was black if what they did was a good thing? Oprah wants to keep things the way they, otherwise she would start to fall by the way side. She wouldn’t get to talk about how being a woman isn’t holding her back, how being black isn’t holding her back, and how everyone who isn’t black is racist.

    1. Thank you for your comment.

I am not a fan of Oprah, and when she supported Obama I saw that as demonstrating a lack of good judgement. Nonetheless, the vast majority of blacks support the Democratic Party. Even though it is not in their own best interest, the vast majority of blacks support the Democratic Party. So I do not think Oprah’s bigotry is about Oprah. Because the problem of racism is deeper than that, what Oprah deserves is pity.

How do we solve this problem? I don’t think there is a government solution. Whenever government has gotten involved, I think government actions have almost aggravated racism as much as they have helped. Because the people we put in charge of fixing racism don’t want to give up their power, they have starting promoting racist solutions to fixed racism. That’s absurd.

How can we fix racism? We can love our neighbor. We can thank and support those who do what is right. Instead of cursing the darkness, we can light a candle. Instead of trying to force others to do what is right, we can set a good example and do what is right.

  2. You may not agree what I am about to state and perhaps believe what I say is irrelevant to immigration. However, this is my opinion of the folly which has taken place in the last forty years by our politicians.

There are two convolutions in the US today in regards to immigration. The first is that in order for our economy to grow which is consumer generated, the population needs to grow to add more consumers. The second convolution in the US is with the advent of legal abortion at a rate of a million a year, the US population now needs immigrants to make up for the million a year children who are aborted (killed) in order for our economy to expand..

In other words, Americans prefer to bring in immigrants into the USA than to deal with raising domestic American children to avoid accepting all the responsibilities, hardships, and joys and sorrows of parenthood.

What we sow we reap. As for abortion, apparently we prefer to kill American newborns and replace them with immigrants.

As I said in my previous reply, to obtain assimilation takes hundreds of years. With the present rate of immigration, it is a mathematical impossibility as with the idealist patriotic theme of John Wayne’s idealistic poem.

Who knows, maybe it will work out better in the long run. Most immigrants come because they have experienced hardship or lack of opportunity and so long as they do honest work and are industrious, the US stands a better chance of the possibility of gain. Then again, someone’s gain can also be someone else’s loss.

However, the problem with the immigrants today in my opinion is that there are more unskilled coming in than skilled. Skilled meaning the immigrant is not in need of social welfare programs. Since we need immigrants to expand our economy, lets at least try to balance the mix of talents so as not to bring greater hardship for unskilled domestic Americans.

    1. Very interesting comment.

I expect to write the last part of https://citizentom.com/2014/05/13/when-does-fantasy-become-insanity-part-1/ this weekend. One of the points I will strive to make is that we don’t give much of what we do very much logical thought.

What we sow we reap. As for abortion, apparently we prefer to kill American newborns and replace them with immigrants.

I believe you are correct to say that is what we are doing. However, we never as people consciously made this choice. Instead, this choice is the logical consequence of a multitude of sins by the multitudes of our people.

  3. Powerful words by a brave woman with a message that needs to be heard more often. Probably won’t though because it takes hundreds of years for immigrants to assimilate. The high rate of immigration into the US makes that an mathematical impossibility.

    1. Before the politicians wrecked our immigration system (goes back about 40 years), about half of the immigrants that came to this country went back to where they came from. No job. No welfare. No reason to stay. In other words, there was a time that if an immigrant did not come here wanting to assimilate, wanting to be an American, they may as well not have come here. Realizing that, those who did not want to assimilate left.
