In this post the author links to a video that graphically displays the distribution of wealth in America. There are two points the video makes that may startled you.
1. The first relates to how much of our nation’s wealth the top one percent controls.
2. The second relates to the fact the over the last thirty years the top one percent’s share of our nation’s income has nearly tripled.
Given the fact we are becoming a nation of Socialists (Remember when Newsweek said “”we are all socialists now”. =>http://www.newsweek.com/we-are-all-socialists-now-82577), the increasing concentration of wealth may seem counterintuitive. However, that is because we have been educated in economics by government and the corporate owned news media.
Supposedly, government-run welfare programs were intended to end poverty. Yet the rich, not the poor, have gotten richer. So why hasn’t Socialism worked? The basic problem lies in human beings, not the manner of government. Because we are easily tempted, the more power we have the more likely we are to abuse that power. Hence Socialism inherits a fatal flaw from corruptable human beings. Socialism gives government leaders total control over a nation’s wealth. Thus, those in power — corruptable human beings — will over time award both themselves and their cronies more and more of the wealth they control.
So what is the solution for poverty? Because we are so easily corrupted by power, government cannot provide a solution for poverty. That is why our nation’s founders chose to limit the power of government. So we are left with only one solution, and that is what the Bible tells us to do. Instead of relying on government to do it for us, we each must love our neighbors ourselves.
So what did King Solomon think? It appears He thought we rid ourselves of corrupt leaders and do what works best for everyone. Instead of fooling the poor, we should seek government leaders who strive to provide justice.
