COLLECTING ALTERNATIVE VOTER GUIDES FOR THE 2013 ELECTION

voteIn addition to publishing its own voter guide, the Prince William-Manassas Family Alliance has collected a list of alternative voter guides.  See 2013 ALTERNATIVE VOTER GUIDES. What is sad about the list is that its mostly left leaning organizations who publish voter guides. Check out what the Prince William-Manassas Family Alliance has thus far published.

The point? It’s not exactly subtle. Both as Christians and as Conservatives we have surrendered the operation of our government to people who do not cherish our rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. So they have taken over our government, they are setting aside our Constitution, and they are abusing the power of government.

If we want to live in a society that allows us the freedom to worship and practice our religious beliefs, we must participate in politics and vote to protect what we value.

  1. I’m just curious: What does it mean to describe something as an “alternative” voter guide? It’s kind of interesting to look at some of these, but are there groups that actually accumulate and make available voter guides of opposing points of view?

  2. I thought you might know. I really don’t want to study a whole bunch of them. It’s not a good use of my time. My question was whether the PW Family Alliance (just to use the one you cited) actually had compiled or aggregated these voter guides from groups I would guess are more or less opponent groups and made them available generally (as you have done also). I think it’s a gratuitously considerate thing to do, but I’m a bit surprised, if that’s what’s going on. I don’t think I would do that if I were running a special interest campaign.

    1. Bias cannot be avoided, but there is something to be said for trying to tell people the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

“If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. 3. That’s a bit obscure, but if you’re saying that the Family Alliance is distributing voter guides from varying groups (or making them generally available electronically), I guess it’s noble of them, but if I were on their board, I wouldn’t be in favor of it. We live in a time where almost no point of view has any difficulty making itself known.

I don’t have a problem with candidates in a debate or forum acknowledging the validity of a point that an opponent might make. But I see no reason why advocacy groups should feel compelled to disseminate opposing viewpoints.

    1. You are making assumptions that have no basis in fact. Just because somebody does something differently than you would do it, why does there have to be something wrong with them? If you have a good product, would it not make perfect sense to help your customers compare what you produce with your competitors? But that’s not what you would do……

  4. You’re absolutely right, I didn’t know the facts and asked a question in an attempt to find out. My not knowing prompted my question. Your response was extremely vague, circumlocutory and not particularly on point. I asked a simple question based on my not understanding what was going on. That’s one of the methods by which I attempt to improve my condition of ignorance about certain things. I thought there might be a simple answer and that you might be a good source of information, given that you posted the story in the first place. For my effort, all I get back is a critique of a phantom position. Sheesh.

To be clear, I don’t think there’s anything necessarily “wrong” with dispensing opposing literature or with the Family Alliance for doing it. I said it was both noble and considerate. I just think it’s unnecessary. Voter guides are all to available from a variety of sources. They are pretty utilitarian publications, so I don’t know that a comparison test is very revealing about anything.

I still am not sure whether it is indeed the case that the Family Alliance or any other group is in the practice of also distributing the literature of other contrary interest groups as part of their voter education programs. Perhaps some of your other readers might be able to help me out with that.

  5. I said that I had a simple question which was (stated a bit differently as an aid to understanding): “What are these ‘alternative voter guides’ and is the Family Alliance actually disseminating the voter guides of groups that have disparate views from their own?” I also said that I don’t wish to spend time examining a raft of voter guides from various interest groups. I make up my own mind about candidates and would never invest time in reading various voter guides or sample ballots of interest groups. No way would I ever decide how to vote based on any of these publications, whatever their orientation.

When I inquired what was happening here, I thought there might be a quick and simple answer. Apparently not.

I withdraw my inquiry. Illuminatikingdom’s comment is about as responsive as anything else in this thread.
