Delegate Scott Lingamfelter made a noble effort to become our next Lieutenant Governor. Even though he put a huge effort into his campaign, it was not meant to be. Therefore, when he spoke at the meeting of the Prince William Republican Committee on Monday night, as he started he still seemed a bit tired, but then he seemed to remember why he ran.
Lingamfelter had not given up. He was just building up steam for the next fight. Here is an email he sent out yesterday.
Putting the “In” Back in “Dependence”
I am fond of saying to folks when they speak to me about the ever-growing, ever-intrusive, and ever-controlling government that “a government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you’ve got”. It’s unclear who coined this phrase, but Thomas Jefferson said things like this all the time. One variant is this:
“The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.” – Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, Paris, May 27, 1788
Anybody care to dispute that’s where we are today? We have become a society that seems increasing ready to hand our liberty over to the government (present company excluded) so government can take care of our every need while tossing any notion of liberty and personal responsibility aside. And who can dispute that the people who installed Barack Obama as our President seem quite satisfied to let the same corrupt IRS-who target conservative groups-to run healthcare at a huge tax-payer expense. Food stamps have proliferated under this President. Unemployment “benefits” have exploded. And so-called “stimulus” money payments to Obama supporters in the not-so-bright solar energy sector came from taxes we paid while all of us struggle to raise a family, make car and home payments, save for the kid’s college years, fix our driveways, patch our roofs, and maybe, just maybe, actually scrape enough money together for (don’t faint) a summer vacation! Oh, did I mention food, clothes, and shoes? Sorry, skipped my mind.
Which brings me to this. When are we going to put the “in” back in “dependence”? The 4th of July is just around the corner. That’s properly referred to as “Independence Day”. But in today’s America, we seem to celebrate “Dependence Day” every other day of the year.
I say, I’ve had it. Really. So this Independence Day, resolve that you will NOT vote for ANY candidate for public office who thinks that you should be more and more dependent on the government and less on your own abilities in order to strive for success. Let’s stand together-right now-against a society of dependence and demand that our leaders focus on what has made America great, including personal responsibility for our lives and families, “risk taking”, and innovation in the a free enterprise system where we can create opportunity and success for ourselves. And by the way, this system includes the right to fail. And when we do fail, we learn from it and come back stronger. These qualities, indeed, these elements of character building, are essential in a free society that elevates independence, not dependence.
I am committed to a larger understanding of what it means to be truly “independent”. Sure people will need help now and again but that’s not the point. The point is that if we permit ourselves to be increasingly dependent on the government, we will destroy what has made us great as a Nation. But not on my watch.
That’s why I decided to run for the House of Delegates again. And if you want a fighter like me in Richmond-even if I am not your Delegate-I would ask you to support my campaign by visiting http://www.scottforva.com/ and clicking the “Donate” button on the upper right corner of the page. Please think about $50, $100, $250, or even more to help us fight for victory in November.
Please help me today and I will be your conservative fighter in Richmond. One who will stand for true Independence!
Have a great 4th of July!
Tom, may I utilize this at church ?! Why haven’t you posted this at Christian Gazette ?
What I have done is simply quoted an email written by the good delegate. If you want to reblog anything I write I have no objection whatsoever. In fact, I would be quite pleased.
