When we celebrate Pearl Harbor Day, I suppose some think it strange. Why would anyone celebrate a defeat? But that is not what we are doing. What we are doing is remembering a lesson. What we are doing is remembering what one generation did when it suffered a defeat.

Here we have a post at Voting American, Remembering Pearl Harbor – 70th Anniversary 1941-2011. samiam60 proudly remembers the history of our nation, and in this post he passes on the advice of one of our elders, a man named Harold Estes. Just in case it you find it hard to believe, please note that confirms Harold Estes said exactly what he said.

  1. Tony, a gross distortion of what Obama said and stands for? Well, we can look at that easily enough.

What concerns me is that the truth is less important to you than an offense to your tender feelings. But then heightened sensitivity is required to impose political correctness. Where logic will not serve, the offended can get in a huff, rant, rave, and strive red-faced to intimidate those who hurt their feelings into silence.

You worry too much about what is unimportant.

Matthew 22:31-32 Good News Translation (GNT)

31 Now, as for the dead rising to life: haven’t you ever read what God has told you? He said,32
I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. He is the God of the living, not of the dead.

How can those who are worthy to rise from death and live in the age to come be harmed by my words? But lies — gross distortions? Lies can harm those who have yet to die.

  2. Tom,

It’s not the hypocrisy in the gross distortion of what the President said and stands for that really bothers me, and you know it. That sort of thing is as old as the first presidential elections. Politics is not bean bag, and unfortunately, it is all too often a back stabbing blood sport. I can deal with that and argue against the logic and facts.

What I find unacceptable is someone using a day of somber memorial for such purposes. You do what your conscience demands, and so will I. I can’t censure you, but I can ask that you use some sense of decency to censure yourself. Beyond that, I can only refuse to participate in mud slinging from the graves of heroes on THEIR DAY of remembrance.

  3. Samiam60 – Thank you

Tony – I don’t trade accusations with you. In order to defend myself, I don’t call you a hypocrite, and I will not do so now. Instead of debating who has the most numerous hypocrisies, I think it would be more useful to discuss religion and politics.

I will just point out a fundamental error in logic. You did not challenge what I said. You attacked how I said it. That argumentative technique forms almost the entire basis of political correctness. When we can control the language and the presentation, we can control the conclusion. We can silence our opponents. We can censor them.

If to keep you visiting my blog I silence myself, what is gained?

Pearl Harbor is a part of history. World War II is a part of history. Our entire human experience is our history. Throughout history people have died, and throughout history people have honored their dead. Yet to honor the dead, you say we cannot talk about their experience apply their experience to our own day. At of the risk of offending those who died in his youth, a 95 year old man cannot call upon his own experience and make a political statement? When politicians routinely call upon history to promote their agenda, an ordinary citizen must be silent.

A 95 year old man can talk about whatever he wants. In fact, it is foolish to stop him. When one of us is that old, we know he has little to lose and much to gain by speaking what he believes is true. Every moment he lives, he lives on death’s doorstep. So out of respect for him, I have linked to his words.

  4. Prostituting the day when so many Americans lost their lives as the platform for a sad and grossly misinformed political hack job dishonors the memory of that day and dishonors everyone who served and sacrificed and suffered afterward.

Thanks to the service of military personnel and civilians at all ends of the political spectrum we certainly have a right trash the graves of heroes with demagogic political propaganda, but it is reprehensible to do so. The fact that people would use such a somber memorial day in this way demonstrates a lack of conservative moral restraint. For me at least, and I pray that I am not alone in this, it transforms any genuine issues that they might advocate into the shrill rantings of crackpots who have lost all sense of common decency.

I love you brother. I admire greatly your passion and resolve. You are capable if presenting reasoned and convincing arguments and evidence here without it being so crass. I beg you to show a little more restraint in what you put on your otherwise excellent blog. I enjoy coming here and debating, but sadly, I will be forced to permanently withdraw rather than be associated with dishonoring our dead. You are better than this.
