Shawn Mitchell is currently the democrat’s candidate for state senate against Dick Black in the 13th district. What does anyone know about him? Precious little. He says he had a scholarship to attend Emory and Henry University but left there to enroll in Tech. We know that he attended Virginia Tech, and he implies that he graduated, but no graduation year is posted, anywhere. We know that he left Tech and enlisted in the National Guard, but no rank is given. We know that he worked for a heating and air conditioning company (HVAC), working his way up to Vice President. We know too that he started his own HVAC company, two years ago in his broadlands home. SourceHis company, Modern Mechanicals, has been quite successful. In this post D.J. McGuire expresses a concern over Herman Cain, Rick Perry, and Mitt Romney. Back in 2008, did they come out in support of TARP? He ends his post with this comment.

In other words, it certainly looks like both (or all if one includes Cain) frontrunners succumbed to the Washington Panic of 2008 – even though none of them were anywhere near Washington at the time. That bodes ill for what any of them would do if they actually get to Washington.

The front-runners may be the front-runners, but for how long?

The GOP Senate Race is Over? by The Virginia Conservative

The virginiaconservative has a complaint he wrote just before a certain debate (see here). Here is how he begins.

Although there are still many months until the Republican primary for Virginia’s Senate seat, some people are already calling the result.  Now such personal predictions don’t bother me.  It is true that George Allen is leading in race currently, in much the same way as Rick Perry is leading in the race for President.  One, both, or neither of them could end up winning.  If you will recall, four years ago Rudy Giuliani was the clear front-runner for the GOP nomination for President while John McCain’s campaign seems to be in total disarray. We all know how that situation played out.  However, when the press starts picking winners and losers, I certainly have a problem.

What is the virginiaconservative talking about? Here is how one news report begins.

The first debate of the 2012 U.S. Senate race in battleground Virginia is set for December, with the front runners, Republican George Allen and Democrat Tim Kaine, confirmed as participants.

The Dec. 7 debate will be part of Associated Press Day at the Capitol, an annual government and political news forum at the state Capitol hosted by the Virginia AP Managing Editors and the Virginia Capitol Correspondents Association. (from here)

Is that not nice of the news media? Before most people have started to pay any attention, they have already selected our nominees for the U.S. Senate. How kind of them! When such Good Ole Boys pick our nominees for us, it saves so much time and bother.

There is this old idiomatic expression.

Feet of clay:  If someone has feet of clay, they have flaws that make them seem more human and like normal people.

Where does it come from? At least a couple of references suggest scripture (see here and here).

That part we present to the world may appear beautiful and admirable, but each of us has feet of clay, feet which our pride demands we hide in carefully crafted shoes. Yet even knowing that, some would have us idolize the exteriors of their shoes. So to protect ourselves from our own foolishness, we must cruelly test the people we elect to high office. We must strive to know their their limitations. We must remind ourselves that even the best among us are only human. Then when our leaders ask for more power than their souls can bear, they will tempt us somewhat less.

I don’t know. When I stop and consider his many … accomplishments … since he became president, this isn’t exactly the image that comes to mind: It’s more like this: To suggest that the man is the Antichrist is to assume that he has a clue.

Republicans have just begun to choose their nominee for president. That process has proven difficult and puzzling. So there are those who now laugh and ridicule, accusing Republicans of being fickle. Perhaps. But the president the Liberal news media foisted upon us simply is unqualified — never properly tested. Instead of testing the people they supported, the Liberal news media idolized their candidates. They encouraged them to seize too much power. Then they looked the other way when the people they supported abused that power.

Do Virginia Republicans need the help of such people to select their Senator? Isn’t the answer all too obvious? So why has George Allen accepted the Liberal news media’s nomination for the U.S. Senate?  Does this not show a lack of good judgement? Does it not demonstrate a contempt for the people he wants to represent? Allen’s fellow Republicans control the nomination, and we have not yet cast our votes.

If you live on the coast or in a flood zone, the evacuate part is definitely a good idea.
