GREAT NEWS FROM DELEGATE BOB MARSHALL!

Saw this in Virginia Right today.

In stunning but not entirely unexpected news, Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Dist 13), will run for United States Senate in the June primary.

I am not yet endorsing my former delegate that I worked for his campaign from 1991 to 1995.  But I know Bob Marshall as a man of principle.  He introduced a child-support enforcement bill I proposed and pushed it hard.  I had written it and was then asked to speak to a subcommittee of the House Courts of Justice Committee chaired by then Del. Richard Cranwell.  The committee for the most part (Del. Jerrauld Jones was a conspicuous exception!) poo-poohed the bill.  But it was helpful to defeat the lie that pro-lifers only care about kids until they are born.

Del. Marshall will serve the people in the best way he can.  I will be keenly interested in this development and how Del. Marshall does, especially in the raising of funds.  It will take millions to win the primary and millions more to beat former Governor Kaine. (from here)

What does this mean for you? If you are a Conservative, then it means you have a first class candidate you can back for the U.S. Senate. It also means we need to get to work.  First step? Let’s get Delegate Bob Marshall on the primary ballot. Here is what is required.

The name of any candidate for any office, other than a party nominee, shall not be printed upon any official ballots provided for the election unless he shall file along with his declaration of candidacy a petition therefor, on a form prescribed by the State Board, signed by the number of qualified voters specified below after January 1 of the year in which the election is held and listing the residence address of each such voter. Each signature on the petition shall have been witnessed by a person who is himself a qualified voter, or qualified to register to vote, for the office for which he is circulating the petition and whose affidavit to that effect appears on each page of the petition.

….

For a candidate for the United States Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, or Attorney General, 10,000 signatures, including the signatures of at least 400 qualified voters from each congressional district in the Commonwealth; (from here; via this page at the Virginia State Board of Elections)

This bulletin contains more detailed information.

Obviously, collecting so many signatures represents lots of work. Unless we help him, we will not even be able to vote for Bob Marshall. The window for collecting the signatures opened January 1, and it will close in March. So we must get started. If you want to help circulate petitions for Delegate Bob Marshall, I suggest leaving contact information at his website.
