With this post, we have our fifth winner, the winner in the Editorial Content Blog Category. However, before I get into that, I would like to discuss a big problem. Various Virginia blogs have written about it. So let’s begin with a brief survey.
- Discriminations tells us that Hubris Leading Deemocrats To Slaughter.
Newt Gingrich had the best line about the Dems flocking to Slaughter:
Last year, the House was passing bills without reading them. This year, they’re passing bills without voting on them.
If the Democrats’ behavior were portrayed in a movie, viewers would not find it credible. (On the other hand, if it were in a Saturday Night Live skit no one would find it funny — just another routine description of how Democrats behave when they want to pass something the public abhors.)
- right-wing liberal provides a Memo to House Democrats: if you vote to declare the Senate bill passed, you vote for the Senate bill.
- Virginia’s 5th District says in Straight Talk Tom in Town that he opposes all the parliamentary tricks.
- Fishersville Mike says in “Name it and Claim it” Congress that a bill passed this way is a sign of weakness.
- Below The Beltway makes an emphatic statement that The Slaughter House Rules would be unconstitutional.
- The Contemporary Conservative observes that Pelosi To Pass Senate Version of Obamacare WITHOUT a Single Vote.
I cannot see how this could possibly be Constitutional given the clear provisions of Article I, Section 7:
“Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law”
Without a direct vote on the Senate bill, I fail to see it could be legally considered a law under the Constitution.
But, you know, these are the win-at-all-costs Democrats we’re talking about, I doubt something as pesky as the Constitution matters to them.
Obviously, this post is about House Democrats plan to “pass” the Senate’s Health Care Bill WITHOUT EVER ACTUALLY VOTING ON THAT BILL! Instead, to cover their tracks, House Democrats would like to “deemed” the bill to have passed (This would work much like the movement of fecal matter in the outhouse pictured above.).
From my perspective, what the blog posts above lack is sufficient outrage. If the House Democrats implement some version of the “Slaughter Solution,” the Republican’s name for this plan, they will be guilty of an outright, blatant, unmistakably unconstitutional act. Thus I would like to provide two examples of appropriate outrage.
The first is from the Mark Levin Show. Mark Levin is a lawyer and an expert on Constitutional Law. He began last Friday’s show discussing the “Slaughter Solution.” Slowly but surely, as discusses the details, he got angrier and angrier, finally roasting with royal fury. Charles works hard. Although he does not necessarily post frequently, what he does post is of good quality and carefully researched. If you read one of his posts you will learn something.
A Review of a TwoConservatives Post
Because it expresses righteous indignation appropriate to the “Slaughter Solution, I chose the following TwoConservatives post: I fear for our country. That post begins this way.
I have NEVER been as afraid for our country as I am today. Of course, I never would have suspected that our elected officials would propose, and our media would accept, the idea that a bill can be passed without voting on it.
Righteous indignation begins in disbelief. We wonder. HOW COULD THEY DO IT! Then the reality sets in. As we ponder the matter — consider what has been lost and what could be lost — we grow steadily more angry. That, however, is not the time to act. We must always be prudent. We must contemplate the appropriate response. We must remember what has been done before, and that Charles does. Thus, he quotes this excerpt from the Declaration of Independence.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
The Liberal Democrats in Congress will not accept the obvious fact that the American People do not want their definition of health care reform. Instead, they refuse to properly accept defeat. Just to get their unpopular law passed, they would unambiguously violate the Constitution. Such a tyrannical act cannot be allowed to stand.
Where there is no honor, there is no liberty. If the House Democrats are willing use dishonest means such as the “Slaughter Solution” to pass their precious health care bill, then we are either at the brink of civil war or we must submit to tyranny.
