This is a sign of how bad things have gotten. Don’t we all know President Barack Obama was lying? Yet now we live in an era when calling the lies of a liar lies deserves Congressional censure.
Bitterly divided along party lines, the House formally rebuked Republican Rep. Joe Wilson Tuesday for shouting “You lie” at President Barack Obama during last week’s nationally televised speech to Congress.
The rare resolution of disapproval was pushed through by Democrats insisting that Wilson, a South Carolina lawmaker, had violated basic rules of decorum and civility in his outburst. Republicans dismissed the vote as a political “witch hunt” and a waste of precious time and taxpayers’ money. (from here)
Admittedly, Wilson’s behavior was inappropriate. We all must respect the office of the president. Thus, Wilson did apologize, and President Barack Obama accepted his apology. Now, the same crowd that defends the most abominable behavior in their own party members want Wilson to grovel before them. That is sick.
Unfortunately, too many in Congress will use any device to win. They do not even consider slander, libel, or simple lies off limits. Anything that works is all that matters. To better understand how their rules work, consider this post, Calling the Obama Race Card a Year and a Half Ago. Then note this column, Boy, Oh, Boy, by Maureen Dowd.
In some minds whether what Wilson said is true or not is irrelevant. In fact, these people refuse to discuss the truth of Wilson’s simple statement. What is beneath their contempt is that he would dare to refuse them. Anything except that. So it is that to get at one man, Dowd smears the entire state of South Carolina. That is the degree of the irrational foolishness we must contend with.

From On High considers Dowd’s accusations of racism in two posts. In his post, Jerry Fuhrman We’re Racists. Yada Yada Yada … and In I Get So Tired Of This references columns that ridicules the accusation. Fuhrman considers Dowd’s accusations laughable. The problem, of course, is that the fools making such accusations expect us to take them seriously, and too many people do.
For example, Michael-In-Norfolk – - Coming Out In Mid Life has supposedly known all along about the increasing racism in the Republican Party. See South Carolina’s Joe Wilson and GOP Racism. Then have pity and pray for the poor man.
