THE HANGMAN’S NOOSE

I recently discovered that I have a hidden streak of racism.   :-(

This subtle taint was pointed out to me here by a reader.  :-(

How do we know that Citizen Tom is a racist?  I included the racist noose below on my blog.  :-(

I became concerned.  So I decided to research the problem on the Internet, and I came away aghast.  I am not the only hangman’s noose racist emanating racist overtones.

Here we have a member of a minority covered in cigarette butts.

Which minority, I have no idea.

This cartoon, however, is more explicit.

It makes the race of the absent minded the object of its terrible ridicule.

And this one is even more disgusting.

See how it features and shames the executioner minority, supposedly so stupid he needs a boyscout to tie his knots.

Even a minority of One (or is it a majority of One) is not spared.

Imagine daring to emanate racist overtones towards God.   God will always have the last laugh.  Have you ever worn a tie?

Ahhh, but here is the worst of all.

Nine nooses inflicted upon a poor little member of the cat minority.  PETA will have a cow.  I wonder if they will need a butcher and a cook.

LOL! Tom, I didn’t call you a racist. I said the noose has racist overtones and that I didn’t like the cartoon. I am quite sure you didn’t read the cartoon that way.

When a noose is shown in the context of the Wild West, the Inquisition, The French Revolution or a jail hanging, that’s one thing. But when it is paired with commentary about a black president? Let’s think about that for a moment.

  2. Old Fashion Liberal says:

kgotthardt – It appears to me that you have the facts wrong. Tom did not write a commentary about a black president. He did not pair a hangman’s noose with a black president. He paired the noose with Congress and townhall meetings.

Has it occurred to you that when you brought up the issue of racism, it allowed you to change the subject? In an effort to deride your accusation, Tom resorted to humor. He should have been less kind and just called you out for engaging in a cowardly attack.

Let’s define problem. Is Tom being insensitive, or is kgotthardt being hypersensitive? To avoid defending her beliefs, does kgotthardt sometimes attack those who confront her with uncomfortable truths? Is okay to allow people to defend their beliefs by claiming that anyone who disagrees is a racist, stupid, selfish, crooked…..?

  3. kgotthardt says:

OFL, I would like to say again–I did NOT accuse Tom of being racist! I said the cartoon was. Did Tom author the cartoon? I think not.

Given the current political climate with the number of crazy people acting out because of the healthcare proposal (and some of those at townhall meetings), I don’t think it’s overly sensitive to take something like a noose as a racial statement. In fact, some might think the author of the cartoon was making a threat against the President. It is easy to derive many readings from a single image.

If you believe I am attacking Tom by telling him how I read the cartoon he posted, then apparently you believe only some of us have the right to post our reactions here.

  4. Old Fashion Liberal says:

kgotthardt – We each can take anything anyway we want, and people will. Do you seriously expect to stop such silliness?

The post is about redistributing the wealth, Congress’idiocy, and our stupidity in electing such idiots. Would you like to comment on the actual subject of the post? Or do you prefer being a “helpful” distraction.

  5. kgotthardt says:

I actually wasn’t attempting to distract. The noose is what I really found distracting, assuming the point of the post was to discuss congressional idiots.

I am glad Tom put up a separate thread about this, anyway, so you and Bruce could duke it out on the previous thread without interruption.
