Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. Do not be too severe upon their errors, but reclaim them by enlightening them. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, Judges, and Governors, shall all become wolves. -- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Edward Carrington, January 16, 1787 (from here)
I have no idea what national health care plans have to do with this, Joe (though that’s a bad plan that scares the heck out of me), but I think it’s ridiculous to close rest stops when I am quite sure private corporations will jump at the chance to keep them open.
So long as the owners don’t abuse drivers (e.g. charge them fees to use the rest stops), who cares who owns them? Is this only a problem in VA?
I’m glad Marshall is taking this on. You know, if Marshall weren’t so hell-bent on addressing the federal issue of abortion and birth control at the state level, I bet he would have many more followers (this is coming from someone who hates abortion but not people who have abortions).
