A COLD DAY FOR OUR NEW PRESIDENT

The pilgrims have started arriving.  They will soon surround the hallowed halls of our nation’s capital to observe the consecration of our new king.  With great hope and shivering, they will celebrate the beginning of a new era.

What does inauguration of Barack Obama forebode?   I do not know.  I just hope for the best and expect the worst. I wish Obama the best and offer God prayers for him.  Nonetheless, I would rather not see him succeed in accomplishing what he has set out to do.   I disagree with most of Barack Obama proposals.   If Obama gets his programs passed, I do not understand how our nation will benefit.

Fortunately, whether Obama is right or wrong, someone else is charge.  Will He save our nation?  Does the continued survival of our republic suit His purposes?   All I know is that He seems to have a sense of humor.

One of the favorite ideas in this last presidential campaign was to do something, whatever that something might be, about global warming.  However, in spite of the hoopla about global warming,  the weather has been decidedly cold here of late.  Last Saturday the temperature here in Gainesville, Virginia, dipped to a degree or two below zero degrees Fahrenheit.  That seems to be the record low for the day.

My wife and I took special notice of this event.  The kitchen sink faces the north wall of our house.  So when the cabinet under the sink is closed, the pipes can get cold.  This morning the cold water would not run.  Fortunately, the pipe did not burst, but we had never had a pipe freeze up before.  As a precaution, we resolved to prop one of the kitchen cabinet doors open on cold nights.

The weather was also cool last year.

Climate reports from two separate government agencies found that 2008 was the Earth’s coolest year this decade. At the same time, data from both agencies (NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies and NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center) identified 2008 as one of the 10 warmest years on record globally.  (from here)

At the same time….whatever the data says, the Obamatized, environmentally wacky, crisis driven corporate news media remains convinced we will be globally cooked.

But most meteorologists say climate change shows little sign of slowing, and they blame our shivering misery this season on two key factors: normal variation in weather, which happens on a much shorter scale than climate shift, and short memories, or a gradual shift in what we think of as “normal” winter weather.  (from here)

Most meteorologists?  How fortunate we are!  Our biased corporate news media now does weather science with polls.   Think of the research dollars we can save.  With a majority vote of meteorologists, we can have the next day’s weather made to order.

Consider the chart below (from here).   Even if we assume the data is accurate, the increase in temperature is only about a one degree Centigrade.   However, the chart is not realistic.  The data scatter is about two tenths of a degree, and only the last twenty to thirty years of data is meaningful.

The chart starts in 1860.  In 1860?  Who are we kidding?  In 1860 nobody had the tools to measure the average global temperature, and nobody was even trying to do global weather measurements.   What the supposed global warming experts are doing is using twenty to thirty years of data to extrapolate  about a half of degree of temperature change to about five degrees over the course of the 21st century.

Based upon such wild conjecture, will Obama and the new Congress be allowed to further stifle our economy with green energy solutions?  Time will tell, but the recent weather will most likely cool the public’s ardor for green energy induced poverty.
