PUT YOUR TIME AND YOUR MONEY TO WORK
Not quite happy with the guy you elected and finding it hard to support your candidate?
If we Conservatives want our country to be run by decent people who share our values, then we have to support our candidates. We have to put both our time and our money where our mouth is.
Here is an email I received from a Conservative who deserves our support.
What are Republicans to do after Obama wins by campaigning on a broad middle class tax cut? Forget whether it is true. And we know he won’t cut deficit spending.Former Governor Christie Todd Whitman (R-NJ) says Republicans have to end the “captivity to social fundamentalists,” and move to the “center.” But the center of what?
Do we give up our liberties sometimes? Do we violate the Constitution sometimes? Vote for giveaway bailouts sometimes? Vote for wasteful and ineffective programs sometimes? Incur unsustainable debt sometimes? Raise taxes or increase the size of government sometimes? Vote for abortion and euthanasia sometimes?
CNN’s exit poll found that John McCain, who campaigned as a bi-partisan maverick, lost independents 60 to 39%, he received 89% of the Republican vote, and 78% of the “conservative” vote! What did the other 22% of conservatives do?
Yes, some were very angry at what our Republicans did in Washington for the last eight years. A full 18% of Bush supporters in 2004 voted for Obama in 2008. Others just dropped out after the Presidential primaries. We need to bring those folks back, and they will come back if Republican politicians don’t stray from the call of our Founders.
Our Founders believed that rights come from our Creator, and government must protect those rights. In 2008 I was the only General Assembly member to take on Virginia’s political establishment and win a unanimous decision in Virginia’s Supreme Court upholding the principal of “no taxation without representation.” I will stay involved and be ready for opportunities to gain back what we have lost.
In fact, two well-connected friends have told me that Senator Jim Webb is interested in the Secretary of Defense position in the new Administration. If he were offered the position and he accepted, that would leave Jim Webb’s U.S. Senate seat open.
Frankly, whether or not Jim Webb becomes the Secretary of Defense, I still need to pay off my remaining small debt of around $13,500. While democrats have a lot to crow about, I want them to know that by year’s end, I will be free to address any position that may arise.
In my legislative district (Prince William and Loudoun), McCain-Palin won by about 50 votes-slim–but a win nonetheless. Thanks to the incredible hard work of our local party activists, western Prince William had around 600 volunteers going door to door, making calls and manning polls! The social conservative neighbor-to-neighbor networking is alive and well in western Prince William County even though we lost the county overall.
Obama was surely helped by Mark Warner and Republican officials who forgot their roots. And we were not helped by the mainstream media or the economy. But that isn’t why we lost. I don’t accept such excuses for defeat.
Frankly, we were out-organized by a community organizer from Chicago! There were roughly 500,000 new Virginia voters this year. And about 250,000 more Virginians voted for president this year than in 2004. Obama won Virginia by 232,000!
Republicans must register new voters, identify friendly voters, and not take them for granted as some Republicans did in Washington with years of out of control spending, Wall Street bailouts and other problems..
Unfortunately, Democrats are 2-3 years ahead of us in collecting voter information by polling door-to-door. Yes, Obama had a boatload of money, tons of media and a lot of consultants, but he still counted on a door-to-door operation to identify his supporters and turn them out to vote. We started Republican voter ID this year in areas where there were door to door efforts. We need more.
This system works, but there must be a clear message to energize people. Go to my Senate Website, http://bobmarshall2008.com. You can see what I stand for. Republican leaders must remain true to the positions they campaigned on, or not be surprised if the rank and file become disillusioned.
If I run for federal office in the future, I will “community organize” just as I have done for my state delegate office these past 17 years! Getting to know voters is the way I keep in touch with the concerns of the community so I can be a better servant. Consultants, polls, and media are helpful, but nothing beats meeting and talking to neighbors.
But before I can even consider running for federal office again, I must pay off my existing $13,500 Senate campaign debt. You know how very close the nominating convention was. Well, I was outspent 14 to 1! I run all my campaigns that way. I win races with less than $100,000 while others spend half a million and more!
I know these are difficult times. But you know defending our values means sacrifice. A donation of $50, $100 or more will help get my debt behind me so I can prepare for the future. Online donations can be made at https://www.bobmarshall2008.com/donate.html. Or, please write a check to Marshall for Senate, Inc. PO Box 458, Manassas, VA 20108. And I thank you!
If I don’t pay off my Senate debt, democrats may think I lack support and will work even harder to beat me in my state delegate race in 2009. So please make the most generous donation you can today. Again, I thank you for that.
Again, any donation will be appreciated. Call my cell number 703-853-4213, or write me at bob@bobmarshall2008.com. Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Then do not leave a candidate you would like to vote for without support.
Marshall your resources. Take back your government.
