Words From The Past
Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. Do not be too severe upon their errors, but reclaim them by enlightening them. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, Judges, and Governors, shall all become wolves. -- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Edward Carrington, January 16, 1787 (from here)

I have this funny thing about rallies. I’m curious about them and wouldn’t mind seeing important people in person if the crowd wasn’t too bad (which it always is). But I also try to avoid group behaviour which I find creepy. The sign waving and hooplah would make me uncomfortable. I guess that’s one reason I’m not a party person. Then again, I can’t deal with sporting events or even large concerts for the same reason. Crowd mentality is frightening. It’s also sensory overload for me.
