PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE – SEPTEMBER 22, 2008 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

elephantgop.pngAs election day near, the meetings grow shorter and more business like.  Nonetheless, there was some fun.  The ladies, in particular, are enjoying the fact that Sarah Palin is on the Republican ticket.  They were selling pink T-shirts to celebrate the occasion and raise funds for the campaign.

What was the meeting about?  What candidates and the party want most at this point is money and volunteers.   Donors and volunteers should check out candidate websites and/or pwcgop.org.  Note that federal election law limits Prince William Republican Committee’s to spend money on federal election (McCain-Feingold).  So if your preference is to help the local party with the current election, contact the PWCGOP’s local office (see pwcgop.org).  They will ask you to write your check to an allied organization such as the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee.

One of the members complained that after the Haymarket Day Parade, too many people just disappeared.  Although there was a large turnout for the parade itself, apparently no one had arranged to man the booth latter.  As a result, there were not as many people as needed to properly man the Republican booth.  So some volunteers ended up staying longer than should have been necessary.  Lyle Beefelt responded that members needed to be aware that as a result of the recent turnover in leadership, particularly at he magisterial district chair level, members needed to be more proactive.  We cannot wait to be called.  We must step forward.

Beefelt reminded members that we have a historic opportunity.  We have two Republican Presidential candidates with a serious reform agenda.  Prince William County is recognized as pivotal in the presidential race.  As Prince William County goes, so goes the state.
