INTO THE FRAY

The more things change, the more they are the same. — Alphonse Karr

In days of old, when the warm summer weather began, troops of bold warriors marched almost joyfully to war.   In fall, with the threat of cold winter weather putting an end to their campaign plans, they grew most serious.  Then they called upon every reserve of their strength.  Without victory, In the cold of winter, their enemy would occupy the strong places.

In Virginia, bold warriors still struggle over the summer.  Their battles still grow quiet with the onset of cold weather, the first Tuesday in November.   Then as now, winter is the time we reminisce in victory or defeat. Now as brave warriors have always done we must call upon every reserve of our strength.

What follows is an email from the Chair for the Brentsville District Chair for the Prince William Republican Committee.  Please heed her call to arms.

Friends –

We have just officially entered the Presidential election campaign season – following a very exciting Republican convention week.  We have a Presidential candidate who is strong on national defense, reforming “politics as usual,” and protecting our Constitution – and he has chosen a running mate in Governor Sarah Palin with outstanding conservative and reform credentials!  We have something to be excited about!!  More importantly, we have a cause worth devoting some of our precious time to in the next 2 months – helping to ensure their victory.

For the last several years I have helped to coordinate lit drops/ door knocking in western Prince William County.  I have found this is a great way to get exercise, enjoy the beautiful Virginia fall weather, train young people in the importance of civic involvement – and work for worthy people seeking public office.

We are planning a major Bristow area lit drop next Saturday, September 13th (exact time and place details to come, but will probably begin about 10:00 a.m.).

Please join us as we reach out both to those Republicans and independents in our area who are starting to pay attention, but may need some more information and encouragement to ensure their vote in November.

Please let me know if you can join us next Saturday.  If you need/ prefer to do this at another time or place, (other Saturday or workday evenings), just let me know and I can arrange to get the literature and lists to you.  Also, I’m sending this to some who may not be able to participate, but I’m asking you to forward it to others you think may be interested.

As a good friend of mine who is helping to organize Loudoun County said, “Remember, we are in a battle: it’s capitalism/free enterprise and a strict constructionist constitution VS. socialism and the ever-changing-no-absolutes constitution.

John McCain has asked you to join the fight.  Please answer the call.”

P.S.  Some teens may be wondering if there will be financial compensation for their help, as at times in the past there has been.  It is possible that later in the fall there will be, but for now I encourage you to take part regardless.  You and your youthful energy and efforts are needed – for the good of your country and for the greater blessing that comes from, as Senator McCain has said, serving a cause larger than yourself.

P.S.S.  At our last Republican committee meeting, it was pointed out that Virginia is viewed by both campaigns as perhaps THE pivotal swing state, and that PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY is viewed by both campaigns as a bellwether county – i.e., as it goes, so will likely the state go.  LET’S NOT LET OUR TICKET – AND OUR COUNTRY – DOWN!
