GOOD NEWS!

The Prince William Extra tries to portray it as bad news, but the news is good.

But the school system’s teacher raises, which amount to about 4.8 percent increases and are on par with or better than Fairfax’s or Loudoun‘s, are just one part of a broader picture showing the school system striving to preserve its innovative reputation despite a weak economy.

Last week, school officials announced that, along with the school systems in Manassas and Manassas Park, they had won a $100,000 grant to design a governor’s school to rival the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County. The yet-unnamed school is to open by fall 2010, pending state approval.  (from here)

The School Board and the PWCS administrative staff are to be congratulated for their continued pursuit of this effort.
