The candidate, Keith Fimian, is expressing optimism. Here is an excerpt from an email.
Building Organization and Momentum
Since last month’s newsletter our campaign has passed another important milepost. We’ve now raised over $760,000, and most of it is in the bank! Money, in and of itself, is no guarantee of victory but it is an indication of three things – hard work, organization and support. We are working hard, we are putting together a first class operation and I am humbled and honored by the support my candidacy is receiving.
Our ability to raise money is proof that we can and will win this seat in November. But our task has just begun. Washington area media is some of the most expensive in the country and if we are to compete for undecided voters in the fall, we will need to triple the amount we have raised to date. With your help, I know we will. One of the biggest reasons I am running for office is because we need new ideas and new approaches to the problems we face. When the Virginia Supreme Court ruled against transportation districts levying taxes last week, transportation was again thrust to front and center of everyone’s agenda. And this is one issue that could sure use some clear thinking and creativity.
One idea that has not been explored enough is allowing more federal employees to work from their homes a few days per week.
As a small businessman I figured out long ago that many of our employees could successfully work from home. Many now do; and they are happier for it! It’s a win-win. It’s less expensive for the employer. It’s better for the employee, who can spend more time with family and less time commuting. It means fewer cars on the road during rush hour. And it means less energy consumption.
Some jobs must be done in the workplace but with a good internet connection and a phone there is no reason why most government employees can’t work from their homes a day or two a week.
This approach works in business and it ought to work in government too. And that’s the kind of common sense business approach I want to bring to Congress.
