PW’s Immigration Resolution Garners Some National Attention
It would seem that a tough local bill on illegal immigration will get the attention of the national press. Here are a couple of examples.
- This USA Today articles cites several local papers (even the national press wants to blog).
- Fox News picked up the AP story. This story contains a quote from local blogger Greg Letiecq (BVBL).
“When we moved to this area, it was just a regular American community,” said Greg Letiecq, the leader of the group Help Save Manassas, which has lobbied strongly in support of the measure. “Six years later it’s transformed into something different. It doesn’t resemble the American dream that I bought or that I wanted to raise my children in.”
Although I have little use for BVBL, I thoroughly agree with what Greg said in the above quote. When a bunch of poor people move into our country, they have to live some place. When these new immigrants move in faster that the economy can help them to improve their standard of living, they can easily drag down the neighborhoods into which they move. That helps no one.
It has taken awhile, but our local politicians have finally recognized the problem. Unfortunately, our national leadership still has not gotten the message; our nation still does not have a coherent immigration enforcement strategy. Why?
My personal opinion is that the fault lies with John Q. Public. We can blame our leaders, but we picked them, and we accepted their promises. If we want our national leadership to do the job it is suppose to do, like defending our borders, then we need to stop listening to promises that have nothing at all to do with their job descriptions. When people do somebody else’s job, they are not doing their job.
Here are the job descriptions for our President, Congressional legislators, and the justices on the Supreme Court. If you have not done so lately, please take the time to read this document. Some of the things our leaders do in violation of Constitution (justified because it is a “living document) may shock you.
