$ Distractions, $ Distractions — $ What About My Billfold?

dollarsigns2.pngWhile the vote by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) on illegal immigration was important, immigration control is not what the BOCS is about. In the long run, all this resolution will do is send a messages to our national leaders that we insist they do something. On the other hand, we have an issue closer to home that our supervisors can really do something about, and they are still sitting on their duffs.

Yesterday’s Potomac News contained news that each of you should find shocking (here).

Prince William County Supervisor Chairman Corey A. Stewart, R-at large, said he’s heard through discussions with leaders from Northern Virginia that the fees and taxes will be approved.

“I think it’s a done deal these things are going to get passed,” he said.

In order for Prince William County’s representative to maintain a firm negotiation stance for transportation funding, he’d likely support them as well.

Prince William County has some critical needs, he said, especially the Va. 28 corridor to Dulles.

“The widening of 28 is critical,” Stewart said. “It’s our connection to the airport and it’s one of the biggest bottlenecks for commuters.”

So far, the widening of Va. 28 is not on any of NVTA’s plans, Stewart said.

The Manassas City Council voted 4-1 Monday night to direct its NVTA representative to vote in favor of the seven taxes and fees.

$ Supervisor $ Corey $ Stewart $ ran on low taxes.  Just this year he fought to keep our taxes from being increased. Has he already forgotten what a tax hike looks like? Do we need to remind him?

Please contact $ Supervisor $ Corey $ Stewart $ and remind him that giving the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) taxation authority constitutes a huge tax increase and threatens us with a fourth layer of burgeoning government bureaucracy. Since the board voted to support the taxes, I’m guessing the answer is “yes”. Or worse, Corey just thinks he has to bribe the NVTA with a yes vote in order to get them to give us money.
