Writing to My Senators; It is About Homeland Security

soldier.pngDear Senator,

The immigration bill that you and your colleagues in the Senate are debating sounds way too much like an amnesty bill. Please do not vote for this bill.

When I considered what I should select as the subject of this email, I briefly debated whether I should select Homeland Security. That is, after all, is my concern. However, I decided my choice would probably confuse your staff. So I selected the “Hot Topic” of Immigration. Nonetheless, the issue for me is homeland security.

Most of the immigrants currently entering this nation are poorly educated. Unbelievably, our current immigration policies favor the entry of poorly educated immigrants, and the pathetic truth is that you and your colleagues have shown no willingness whatsoever to fix the problem.

Unfortunately, the policies you and your colleagues have promoted pose long term security risks. These policies create several issues related to our economy, cultural integrity, and border control.

The Economy. The influx of large numbers of poor people strains public services. On the whole, these people cost our economy more than they can contribute. Further, because many of them cannot speak English, their children put a double whammy on our education system. Their poor, illegal immigrant parents cannot pay the taxes required to educate their children yet their children cost more to educate.

Cultural Integrity. The large numbers of illegal aliens in this nation divides our country based on language, income, culture, and legal status. Hispanic laborers now perform much of the menial labor in this nation. The nice thing about that is that these people work cheaply and obediently. However, there are problems. The presence of these laborers is depressing the wages of legal American workers. Moreover, these Hispanic workers are not stupid. Sooner or latter they will realize they are being exploited, and they will no longer remain docile.

Unfortunately, because of their large numbers, a depressed economy, and the language difference, there is no guarantee these illegal immigrants will be properly assimilated. Thus rather than using our relatively peaceful political processes to voice their complaints, they may express their displeasure violently.

Border Control. Because we do not penalize employers when they hire illegal immigrants, our employers encourage immigrants to enter this country illegally. While most of these people are perfectly decent human beings, the illegal entry of large numbers of people jeopardizes our security. These people provide cover for terrorists.

So senator, I think it is time you tried to fix this problem. Otherwise, your primary legacy may be your contribution to the decline and fall of the United States of America.

Sincerely,

Citizen Tom
