If you want free publicity, there are times the people you can most count upon are your opponents. Thus, Faisal Gill must be grateful the controversy created by certain blogs has helped to ensure adequate press coverage for his campaign kickoff.
These blogs have gone to great lengths to make an otherwise boring contest between two good candidates for the Republican nomination for House of Delegates, 51 District, interesting. The contest would only be truly interesting if a really bad candidate might win. However, both Faisal Gill and Julie Lucas are able and accomplished. So without doubt, without the help of certain blogs, our local news media would find this contest a yawner. Thus we conservatives are fortunate this contest has been favored by some with overactive imaginations.
In fact, blogs such as BVBL and Goodbye Jim may prove themselves indispensable to a conservative Republican victory. Both have guaranteed just the right kind of controversy where its needed. They have striven mightily, making great efforts to generate outrageous, easily disproven charges, just the type needed to provoke sympathy for the offended party. Without a doubt, Faisal Gill owes them both a debt of – gratitude? Well – maybe not that.
BVBL, in particular, has shown a magnificent flair for finding things with which to charge Faisal Gill, things no one else would ever have considered. For example, BVBL’s invention of the uniform controversy (here) kept alive the interest in Faisal Gill. Yet, at the same time, the charge itself is impossible take seriously. A picture of a politician in uniform is illegal? Who else would have thought of that?
Nonetheless, with an entirely unexpected stroke of genius, Goodbye Jim once again topped BVBL. Goodbye Jim provided free advertising for Faisal Gill’s Kickoff (here). Why he even took the time to remind Gill to post the event on his web site. How exceedingly kind!
