This weekend the Washington Post published an article suggesting that the PWC School Board wants more money for teacher pay (no doubt the school administrators would get a pay increase too). Supposedly, Corey Stewart, Chairman of the Board of County Supervisors, thinks that the School Board is paying for too much administrative bloat. So he is against an increased budget. Superintendent Walts, on the other hand, says PWC Schools has fewer administrators than other schools. All this talk begs the question, what are the numbers?
So I went to the PWC Schools website. Those numbers are buried in the budget. Nonetheless, if you check the PWC Schools website, you will find plenty references to administrative staff, including people who do budget analysis. Perhaps these people would kindly tell us the numbers.
Even if PWC Schools has less than most, do we really need all this administrative overhead? After years of big budget increases, the PWC BOCS has decided to hold the line. If the School Board wants more money, instead of arguing with the BOCS, the School Board should take it’s case to the public. The public has the right to know.
