I just got the following information about a fundraiser from Denny Daugherty, Chairman for the Prince William & Manassas Family Alliance.
The Prince William & Manassas Family Alliance invites you to have breakfast with us Saturday, March 24, at 9:00 a.m. at the Old Towne Inn, 9403 Main Street, in Manassas. Delegate Bob Marshall will report on the actions taken in the just finished 2007 General Assembly session that affect the protection of innocent human life. Nathanael Banks, associate editor of Celebrate Life, the newsletter of the American Life League will discuss recent developments in the medical field that reduce the excuse to create and destroy embryos for stem cell research. Mr. Banks earned a B.S. in microbiology from Oregon State University in 2006.
We hope you will also bring your suggestions for the priorities of the Family Alliance this year. In the recent past we led the successful campaigns for the Marriage Amendment and against offtrack gambling. This spring we are considering an initiative to streamline and reduce the cost of obtaining county approvals for church construction and expansion. We are also promoting a Manassas city ordinance to regulate abortion clinics for patient safety. We will publish voter guides in as many as 28 races this fall, including State Senate, Delegate, County Supervisor, School Board, Sheriff and Clerk of Court.
We need to upgrade our website to facilitate tracking of legislation in the General Assembly and Congress. We are not currently able to update the website quickly enough to draw attention to rapid developments such as the drive to require every sixth grader to receive a newly approved vaccination against the sexually transmitted disease, the human papilloma virus, that is believed to cause cervical cancer. From out of nowhere the bill was introduced in early January and by month’s end H.B. 2035 had received a unanimously favorable report from the House Appropriations Committee and S.B. 1230 passed the State Senate unanimously.
Virginia now has the dubious distinction of being the first state whose legislature adopted this mandate at the urging of the Merck Co. What message is society sending young adolescents when our schools are teaching the abstinence curriculum developed by KISS’n and Bob FitzSimmonds, but the child may not be able to enroll in school unless the child is immunized against a sexually transmitted disease? Won’t many immature teens wrongly assume that they are immune to the risks of promiscuous sex and take risks that will lead to infection with other STDs?
Please respond by e-mail to reserve a place at breakfast and mail your check for $25 to the Pr. Wm. & Manassas Family Alliance, P.O. Box 3013, Manassas, VA 20108. If you have any questions, please contact Alliance vice-chairman Steve Chapman at (703) 981-2449.
