PWC GOP Committee Vice Chairman

Denny Daugherty has just announced that he is running to be the next Vice Chairman of the Prince William County Republican Committee.  Here is his announcement requesting our support.

I am writing to ask your support for the position of vice-chairman of the County GOP committee, which has unfortunately become vacant just as the most important local election in many years is beginning.

Every legislative seat is up for review, along with the offices of sheriff, clerk of court, commonwealth attorney, county supervisor and school board. In addition to our incumbents, many other excellent candidates have announced. Vacancies in the office of Clerk of Court, the 51st House of Delegates district, and the chairmanship of the school board will no doubt draw strong Democratic candidacies, seeking to capitalize on the surprising success of Tim Kaine and Jim Webb in carrying Prince William Co.

I believe that my more than 40 years in grassroots politics, plus my four years as chairman of the Brentsville Magisterial District, has prepared me to be a useful assistant to my friend Chairman Tom Kopko. I have a strong motivation to do a good job, as my good friends Bob FitzSimmonds, Milt Johns and Corey Stewart run for Senate and the leadership of our school board and board of supervisors.

I am not running for this job as a stepping stone to the party chairmanship or public office. As a federal employee, I cannot seek public office and I should not be your party chairman. My only goal is to assure continuity in this critical election year.

In response to Denny’s announcement Del. Scott Lingamfelter offered his immediate support.

Denny,

I am delighted. You have my full endorsement and support. Your performance as a magisterial district chair has been exemplary. Your appreciation for what a committee does – win elections – is in perfect sync with what we need. And I think you would be an outstanding right arm for Tom Kopko as he continues to hone the committee for the fight this fall. Moreover, like our superb secretary Grant Bell, you will bring a solid focus to the job.

I was sorry (really) to see Karen step down, but your willingness to step up and help our Chairman is commendable.

One final thought. The D’s are going to target all of us (Bob, Jeff, me) and deny us victory in our senate and house races. Do not let the recent disruption in their county committee lull you to sleep. They are eager to defeat conservatives. They have assembled a large war chest at the state level and very much do NOT want us to agree to a transportation compromise so they can pound us with that failure in November. Since my involvement in politics, I have never witnessed such a cynical attitude by the opposition. The have filmed us in committees to create “You-Tube” moments. They have made floor speeches asserting we are “stealing from teachers” by advocating excess general fund money for roads. (My wife, Shelley, is a teacher, as you know Denny, and this has made me mad as h_ _ _.)

Meanwhile they have offered silly bills including:

  1. Requiring that teachers hold up pictures of George Washington on his birthday. (How ’bout just teach the truth about the Founding Father’s vision for us)
  2. More bills on the state song. (How ‘bout less “political song and dance” and more work on roads)
  3. And, if you can believe it (I’m not making this up), a bill making the apple the state fruit!!! (Now that will get traffic moving…)

Obviously, none of this will solve a single transportation problem. But this is the reality amid all their rhetoric condemning the House GOP approach to solving transportation without higher gas and sales taxes.

That said, they really don’t have any issues to run on UNLESS they spike a transportation solution.

So you and Tom have your work cut out for you. Inspiring a voting public to support our party in a highly partisan environment cuts both ways. Meanwhile, I will continue to do my part to get us forward progress on transportation, protecting human life, education reform, parental rights, securing our right to keep and bear arms, and voting against wasteful spending.

By the way, I voted against every single one of the None State Agency budget amendments (money for museums and such), literally millions of dollars, that can’t be justified while we sit in traffic and build college buildings but not fund the equipment to go in them. Bad priorities…

Again, thanks for your willingness to step up and do this. You are the right man.

Warmest Regards,

Scott Lingamfelter

I have worked with Denny for years.  As Del. Lingamfelter noted, Denny served for years as the Chair of the Brentsville Magisterial District, and his performance as the district Chair was exemplary.  Denny’s hard work helped us to achieve strong Republican vote totals in the Brentsville District.  I urge you to accept Del. Lingamfelter recommendation and vote for Denny Daugherty.

If you are not active in the Republican Party, the grassroots is the place to start.  Please go to Prince William County Republican Committee.
